# 92_20210918 Death of Sarthos %%[Video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FXfktv1Qr0)%% ## Session Summary We ran away from the Hall of Justice, leaving the mercenaries, Sarthos, and the Force Chimera chasing after us. We ran across the bridge and to Castle Never, seeing some destruction in Blacklake District from an unknown force along the way. At the Castle, we tried to destroy the sword, but were unsuccessful. Sarthos and the Force Chimera come to us. Sarthos is killed by the ghosts, and the Force Chimera are kept at bay and eventually leave, after firing a single blowdart at Ka'ira. We take Sarthos's body to the Vault for safekeeping, intending to Raise him later. Desperate for a way to destroy the sword, we go to the Chasm by teleporation circle. As we leave the Sanctum Empirica and the ruins of Zofaris's tower, we see the Shambling Mound and engage it in combat. We win, but Maestro loses an arm in a gruesome moment inside the Mound's body. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[91_20210911 Neverember's Rally#^summary]] --- ## Log Sabine's sword is a [[Vorpal weapon]], enchanted to decapitate creatures with one strike (but Ka'ira doesn't know what the requirements are). - [[Maestro's pet rock]] and handaxe were left behind - There was an explosion from the direction of the docks - We have [[Sarthos]] and five mercenaries coming after us - Ka'ira's still carrying the weapon and it is dangerous. We're running away! We try to find [[Neverwinter Sewers]] entrances, but Maestro couldn't spot any in the hubbub. So we're just going to make a run for it. I do a Streetwise check using Wisdom (+8) and succeed in navigating us. We see the smoke coming from the docks. We also see a fire. Oma's already gone, but the other two young mercenaries are there and they let us through. Maestro notices that [[Blacklake District]] seems to be deserted of people and there are things that are overturned and broken. Sarthos sees us and they follow us. We get to [[Castle Never]]. I try to destroy [[The First Blade]] with a Sacred Flame, but it doesn't work. It has a necromantic source. It's arcane and divine in nature, but an evil divinity. There are no runes, but there is a black cloth around the hilt to make it easy to handle. The cross-piece (thing to prevent your hand from sliding to the blade) has three gems. Two of them are fully red, and one of them is dark. The gems don't get destroyed by my Sacred Flame. Maestro goes to the [[Royal Armory]] to grab a longsword and attack the sword. [[Fuego the Fire Warrior]] HP: 20 He would have been decapitated, but he's made of fire. He doesn't do damage. Ka'ira does a critical hit on him with the sword and triggers the decapitation and an additional 3d12. "You're about to die, faithless swordsman. I'm about to give you purpose." were the words Sabine used before she killed Sarthos. I tried to Extract its name and rolled a 15. That fails! Sarthos's corpse is in front of the castle door. [[Force Chimera]] are here too! [[Force Chimera genasi|The air genasi]] fires her bola and captures Lydia. [[Luthas|The barbarian]] is at the door. [[The Ioxian League Obelisk in Castle Never|The obelisk]] connects to a power source and it is also connected to other obelisks. It's also being diverted to protect the castle in a minor way and also something else. Luthas is the name of the barbarian. He attempts to go into the courtyard and the ghosts swarm him. The air genasi calls him a fool, but he keeps going. [[Invidoo]] meets us there. He was dancing in the fire! He's excited that he did his job. The three Force Chimera disappear. I tell [[Zeethrix]] about the three of them. Sarthos's human body has a lot of scars. He's been in a lot of battles, or he's been tortured. Original amount of alchemical reagents: 3,420.83 Left to get: 1,368. I took everything in the [[Alchemist's Lab]]. There's nothing left! We go back to the Chasm via the [[Sanctum Empirica]]. There is a suspicious pile of leaves. The [[Shambling Mound]] is near. Initiative! - Maestro - 21 Keren - 20 Xio - Eraithe - Shambling Mound - Ka'ira The Shambling Mound is glowing a very faint blue light. It has expanded. It moves 4 squares. Eraithe is engulfed. The Shambling Mound is a large creature. Round 1 - Sacred Flame - I missed Round 2 - Minor: Healing Word on Eraithe - Standard: Sacred Flame Attacks on the Shambling Mound don't affect the person engulfed inside. 27 Being engulfed restrains the person inside. [[Keren]] uses _Victim of the Feywild_ to damage the creature and teleport Maestro and Eraithe out to adjacent spaces to the creature. Keren teleports himself and becomes invisible. (Encounter power) Round 3 - Standard: Sacred Flame with Dissolution resonant Keren uses _Vicious Mockery_, an attack vs Will. He does 6 psychic damage, and the creature gets a -2 penalty to its attack rolls until Keren's next turn. Round 4 We hear [[Gibberling]]s in the distance. Maestro takes 10 damage since it's engulfed, and the Shambling Mound heals 10. It's taken 73 damage. Maestro loses an arm. :( -94 now for Shambling Mound Save ends for engulfing. - Standard: Sacred Flame with Dissolution resonant - 19 radiant -113 for Shambling Mound -8 from Ka'ira's mark Keren does Vicious Mockery again. -8 to it. 129 damage so far. It's at death's door, but on Maestro's turn it heals 10. 119 damage. Round 5 - Standard: Sacred Flame with Dissolution resonant - +13 to hit, 15 damage +1d8: 23 damage I killed it! We need to loot it and avoid the gibberlings.
