# 95_20211030 Maugwraithe takes over Sarthos ## Session Summary Sarthos seemed to know the direction to the sword, and he began to run in that direction. I followed him, after having sent a message of warning to Ka'ira. Eventually, we caught up with Ka'ira and Maestro and started to fight Sarthos. We eventually killed him (again), but in the process, we destroyed the house of Hester and Rita Starkweather. We invited them and their baby, Tiny, to come live in Castle Never as a way to repay them. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[94_20211009 Killing but Not Killing Sarthos#^summary]] ## Log I am one gap away from Sarthos. There's something on the ground - grains or something - that makes running on it difficult. Chase rules! Complication 2: Group of drunken men wander into our path. [[Sarthos]] is slowly transforming into some sort of insect as the sword melds into his hand so that there's no longer any hilt, and his eyes begin to bug out. He develops a carapace. His arms are starting to look like scythes. The drunken men surround Eraithe, marking him as an easy target. Ka'ira knocks most of them unconscious. Sarthos aka [[The First Blade|Maugwraithe]] hops onto a roof and goes down through a window into a house. Maestro follows him, and we see sounds from the house's inhabitants. Maugwraithe/Sarthos sprouts two limbs. Maestro spots a tiefling go into a house, someone he recognizes, but he continues to grapple Maugwraithe/Sarthos. Sarthos's DR is 9. Maugwraithe's voice says that he is a Bane guard. Sarthos's voice comes out and begs us to kill him because he can't control Maugwraithe. 29 vs Fortitude was a crit against Sarthos. Sarthos's reflex is 17. Ka'ira and Maestro kill Sarthos - the rest of us are still catching up. As Sarthos dies, Maugwraithe seems to retreat away from him and back into the sword. [[Hester Starkweather]] is the name of the man whose house was ruined in the chase/fight. He is a chronicler. He is the one who witnesses events and writes down the deeds, adventures, or experiences of a particular person. He wanted to go to the Library of Oghma, but it's a scary place to work (and actually it's hard to even get to). So he hasn't been able to find work. Hester's wife is named [[Rita Starkweather]]. Their almost newborn baby is [[Tiny Starkweather|Tiny]]. She worked as a maid and a cook. She's a servant. We employ them and convince them to come back with us to Castle Never. I conjure a Tenser's Floating Disk (1,000 pounds for 24 hours) to put Sarthos's body on, and I use a Mage Hand to take Maugwraithe. We give them 5 gp to prepare food. Maestro's pet rock comes rolling into [[Castle Never]] and stops right beside Maestro! Maestro suddenly has a thought about making it an arm. Maestro and Ka'ira tell me about the [[Driftwood Tavern]].
