# 97_20211113 Arlon and his pet Bubbles
## Session Summary
Cyla took us to the Kraken Tunnels, and gives us a map of the hideout that is pretty accurate. She led us past several rooms, including one with a Chain Guardian that attacked us when we went there without the medallion that she had.
We followed the noises of a scuffle and found a room of cages with Nashers imprisoned inside them, looking sickly. We kept going into a large cavern, where several Rat Muggers briefly engaged us and then focused their efforts on destroying the sewers. In the cavern, there is also a well inside which a man who identified himself as Arlon Bladeshaper was suspended over a gigantic tentacle. I Fire Bursted some Rat Muggers before I realized it hastened their attempts to destabilize the cavern. Arlon yelled out that Bubbles just needed to be fed, so I was able to grab the food and bring it close enough for Maestro to lob it into the well, sating "Bubbles" for now.
Keren teleported Arlon out of danger, and we damaged the Rat Muggers enough to cause them to turn and run away, but we were still left in this cavern with the thought of imminent collapse looming before us. ^summary

## Log
[[Cyla]] is wearing tight-fitting leather clothes, a hood, and a dagger. She's taking us to the sewers. We follow her to the Nashers' headquarters. They're called "[[The Kraken Tunnels]]" because there used to be an old slaving group that operated there.
She says their HQ is perpetually damp. She's drawn us a map!

The rectangle in the center is the base. There is an elevated metal platform around it for security.
- Room in far east is only accessible by platform. That's where they get their weapons but Cyla has never been there. The other [[The Nashers|Nashers]] have said that they go there every day and they see baskets of weapons that they pull up using a pulley system.
- Her favourite room is in the south, where she cleans weapons.
Maestro thinks the [[Dead Rats]] may be immune to normal weapons.
There is only one exit and entrance.
Entrance
- Cyla spins a valve in a certain combination like a vault lock. She opens the wall and shows us the Weapons Room. It's a 15 x 15 room and a metal door that is closed. 15 feet up from the floor is a battlement and people can stand there for fighting advantage.
- There are arrow slits on the north walls, 15 feet high. left and right side of the door.
She knocks on the north door of this room. She said there was supposed to be someone on the other side. There's a mechanical thing in the middle, a guard. Cyla can get us through it using a metallic amulet that looks like an octopus, but with too many tentacles. When she has this, it doesn't trigger.
Guard Room
- I use Knock and roll a 27. Cyla opens the door and darts to the side as there is a small scuffle. Ka'ira thinks it comes from one of the platforms. There is a cylindrical metallic thing in the center. On the wall opposite the door you came in is a kraken icon. We hear a 10-second rumble.
- The floor here has metal plates (5-foot plates) on top of the stone. They don't seem to be welded - they're just placed on top. Ka'ira lifts one up. The floor is about a foot thick, and beneath the floor she sees water. The plates cover holes. They look like they haven't been touched in a while.
What I know about [[Kraken]]s
- They're legendary. Nobody has actually seen them and I haven't read anything in any written work.
- They devour huge ships. They are gigantic, maybe as big as this entire city.
- People think they are one of the primal forces of this world, or created by one of these primal forces.
- They are said to be very intelligent. They're often mistaken for octopuses, but they plan and are devious.
- Even port cities fear the kraken.
- Not sure about why they attack. But it's not instinctive. Unknown purpose. Their needs are different from people's.
- There are a couple of krakens in the world (I would guess).
- They probably have 16 tentacles.
I put the light into the water. It seems deeper than I expected. But there are no shadows.
- We hear the sounds of what seems to be a fight. It seems to be coming from the platform farther to the east. Keren thinks it came from the hallway that goes north.
- Cyla says that there are extra spikes and curves to the weapons for flair, but they aren't any more functional - they just look more cruel.
- Cyla starts getting hiccups. She was hiccuping before, but now it seems more obvious. She says that not everyone in the Nashers has an amulet. Only the high-ranking ones and those who need to go out earlier. Cyla actually didn't have an amulet - she just got it from one of her dead friends because she knew she needed it to get out.
- We are going towards the Weapons Room. We hear sounds above and to our right - a definite fight/struggle ahead and to our right, going north. We turn around and rush towards the meeting room to climb up the pathway and enter the fight as well.
Meeting room
- Still no bodies, but we see blood and muddy footprints. The doors are ajar. Looks like they've been forcibly opened and can't serve as doors anymore. They were slashes and hit with weapons to open them.
- Door to the meeting room opens southwards. There are chairs that were knocked down. There are maps that are blood-stained and some of them are cut by the battle. But there is a crude map of Neverwinter. Some areas are encircled. There are tokens on the floor and on the table. It's a massive map, 10 feet long.
- Encircled:
- Moonstone Mask
- bridge
- Neverember's villa
- a house in Protector's Enclave
- The Library
- The Wall
- Vell Manor
We get into the pathway. It's single file and we get disadvantage on attacks, but we have cover from anyone at the bottom.
- Eraithe
- Maestro
- Xio
- Cyla
Initiative
- Chain guardian
- Maestro
- 8 Xio
- Eraithe
- Ka'ira
- Cyla
The chain guardian does 13 damage to us.
We get to the west end of the walkway but we just see the diagonal sewers. We move back to the north. Looking down, we see cages. Cage Room!
- There are people inside the cages. They look like Nashers who have been in a fight. There's no obvious lock on the cage or opening.
They look mundane.
We hear metal plates moving up nearby as the water goes underneath them. We affix a piton and rope to the pathway and climb the rope down. Eraithe, Cyla and I are down by the cages when the door suddenly opens.
"They're here, they're here, someone's coming! Hurry up, they're already here! Get it out of them or move back to the lair, I don't know." There's a whistling noise.
- 26 Them
- 20 Maestro
- 16 Ka'ira
- 18 Xio
Maestro sees some sort of needle or dart heading towards us. There's a strange buzzing sound and the dart starts to multiply. It looks black and yellow. It does 2 damage but then you have to make a constitution check. Keren succeeds, but Maestro takes an extra 9 poison damage. We see two small humanoids holding morningstars. They are hunched and their faces are rat faces. They are wearing green cloaks.
It looks like they are going to be biting, and their teeth are glinting. "You are trespassing. This is our lair now." It looks like their bites might be poisonous.
Bite: 14 physical
Two attacks (multiattack)
Maestro is bloodied!
"They're trapped in this walkway. Finish up there and go to the lair." We hear arguments.
![[fr-kraken-tunnels-01.png]]
"These aren't like the others! They're not pushovers! Tell the boss!"
Keren teleports allies down.
-5 Magic Missile on Rat Mugger
These are Wererats, a specific kind of lycanthrope. They are immune to most natural forms of physical damage. They lair underneath cities and form large families underneath, like a guild. They are more like a guild than a swarm or hive - they have bosses and positions. They are normally cowards and have more of their kind. They are Level 5 but there are usually a lot of them. They are vulnerable to silvered weapons - they deal double damage and prevent regeneration for one round.
They start to run! There is a longer rumble, about 20 seconds. "We might need to sacrifice this lair!"
Eraithe tries the door and finds that the medallion can fit there.
We hear a splash and then several splashes as it seems that rats are jumping down. The metal plates we're standing on are a little unstable. The ceiling is developing cracks. Black water is starting to pool on the ceiling.
I hand the medallion to Eraithe, who fits it onto the door. The door opens, locking around the medallion. It opens into a large, manmade cavern.
- On the right, there is a platform with several of the green-cloaked people. (we don't see this yet.) The platform is on top of a well.
- Inside the well is water roiling heavily and there is a man dressed like one of the Nashers who is flailing inside the well. Most of the metal plates here are in disarray.
- There are stairs leading up to the platform on one side - there are two ways to get up of the platform, apparently. one here and one from the meeting room.
- There's destroyed rope by the well.
- We don't see the walls or the ceiling.
One big tentacle comes out of the well and starts thrashing. It destroys the platform on top of it (which was metal!). The platform is now crumpled. There is splashing water and the stone walls are moving.
![[fr-kraken-tunnels-02.png]]
One side of the wall is a recent excavation. There is a door there that is ajar.
I Fire Burst three rat people I see there.
Reflex 14, I do 15 damage
One of them has a Reflex 16 - he is not a mugger. He doesn't have a morningstar. He's holding something smaller, like a dagger or blade or something tubular. 27 bloodies him. There are several wooden planks that are going straight into the ceiling. My Fire Burst shows me that some of the planks have been destroyed and they were holding up the ceiling there.
The tentacle hits everyone in the room.
Eraithe sees one of the rat muggers transform into a tiny rat.

Visions of Avarice
Healing word
Keren teleports the drowning man to the platform. The drowning man is [[Arlon Bladeshaper]]. He says "Bubbles is hungry."
I see a chest that's closed in the corner. I go to it. There's a crate with "Bubbles" on it. The top is loosened. I see 1 or 2-foot cubes of something stinky. I grab one and move towards the well, but don't have enough to throw it. Maestro grabs it and throws it into the well for me.
The rats knock off the second-to-the-last support here and the ceiling gushes forward with black water.
