# The First Blade, Maugwraithe The First Blade is the name of the sentient sword of [[Sabine]] that the party stole from her in [[91_20210911 Neverember's Rally]]. It told [[Maestro]] its name: "Maugwraithe". It is also a [[Vorpal weapon]]. When the wielder crits while wielding it, it can decapitate the creature it is used against, and also deals an additional 3d12 damage. It is bluish black, and contains an evil presence that fought against Maestro's handaxe, causing both it and the handaxe to fly apart. It has three gems on it, and two of them are lit up. It is made of both [[Arandor metal]] and [[Thinuan metal]]. According to [[Sarthos]], this sword is the way that Sabine has been able to control him. ## History This blade has been consecrated in the service of [[Bane]], the god of domination, tyranny, and victory. It is the first of [[The Seven Blades]] that were consecrated to a dark entity. It was created by [[The Netherese]]. ## Gems The gems signify the souls trapped within it: - One is unknown. - One is certainly [[Sarthos]]. - Another is a goblin worgrider that Ka'ira killed with it. - Goblin Pack Lord from [[103_20211226 Tyr corrupted#^8b9d09]]. ## Destruction The only way to destroy Maugwraithe is to attune to it (resisting its will as it tries to control you), and then consecrate it in the name of a deity. Then, Maugwraithe can be destroyed just like any other blade. ## Attunement [[Ka'ira]] has been able to attune to Maugwraithe for two out of the requisite 10 days. So far, she's gotten the following benefits from her attunement: - Supernal - A dialect of Common called [[The Netherese|Netherese]] ## Appearance When [[Sarthos]] got Maugwraithe back briefly, he began to turn into some sort of insect, which is presumably Maugwraithe's true form: - Carapace - Arms that look like scythes
