Its walls are made of spiral piles of decomposing bone and bodies. The walls are uneven in places, and have holes in their structure through which creatures climb. The corpses in the wall give off a strong stench.
## Population and defense
- [[Grell Strangler]]
- [[Nothic plague gazer]]
- [[Fire Bats]]
- [[Foulspawn]]
- Other humanoids that are deformed, such as orcs.
- A gigantic [[Foulspawn]] in the center, half-buried in stone and roots, staring at the crystal
- [[Carrion Crawler]]s on the corpse wall
## Prisoners
Prisoners are taken to the Twisted Fane, and can be found in a few places.
### Corpse wall
There is a wall of dead bodies that provide protection against the rest of the Chasm while also serving as a refuse pile for prisoners or creatures that are dead or were killed, being judged unworthy. Carrion crawlers, which are scavengers, are attracted to this wall.
### Pools
Some living prisoners are placed in sacs in underwater pools. After a while, Thogrim's arm began to turn transparent.
### Caves or out in the open
Other living prisoners were placed in organ sacs in the middle of a cave. These prisoners stayed in the sac until they were removed or possibly "birthed", at which point they became [[Wretches]].
## Structures
### Mouth-like cave
In [[68_20210509 Stepping on Eldritch Ground]], we found a cave that had an organ sac suspended in the middle where [[Wretches|Foulspawnlings]] came from, and teeth attempted to keep us from leaving.
### [[Milk Elemental]] cave
In [[71_20210522 Saving prisoners]], we came across a cave with roots that, once set on fire, began to ooze out "milk elementals" that seemed like a body's natural reaction to a virus (the aberrations), flushing out foreign bodies. These blobs of liquid are friendly and can kill aberrants, but they don't have a truename.
After we killed some roots, we noticed that the lightning had change in quality. It seemed to be brighter than normal when it pulsed and dimmer than normal between flashes. We're unsure if it is related to the milk elementals being freed.
When we returned to the Twisted Fane in [[79_20210622 Another pool but no Reona]], the area near where we had freed the antibodies was blocked off by a light-colored stone wall, and we saw the antibodies fighting the wretches.
### [[Blue crystal in the Twisted Fane]]
The blue crystal stands at the center of the Twisted Fane, near the Foulspawn Monstrosity.
## Themes
- Roots
- Roots are found in caves, going into underwater pools of prisoners, leading to sacs of [[Wretches]], and on the ground
- In [[79_20210622 Another pool but no Reona]], we also saw one of the roots move like a tentacle to feed a nearby wretch to the gigantic foulspawn, which seemed to be energized by it and began to move. These roots, however, were pulsing red and seemed different from the inert ones we'd seen previously.
- In [[80_20210617 The Foulspawn Monstrosity can't keep us from Reona]], we saw these roots also be pulled to the [[Foulspawn Monstrosity]] like tentacles, dragging the sacs of prisoners in the pools with them.
- Anatomical or biological parts
- Some parts of the Twisted Fane resemble body parts: organs, hearts, flesh, and mouths
- The presence of the [[Milk Elemental]]s are like antibodies that flush out viruses.
- The stench of death, decay, and undeath (or perhaps lives after death) are present all throughout the structure.
- Crystals
- Crystals and blue lightning have been found in caves and out in the open, but they _weren't_ found in the Milk Elemental cave, suggesting they are unnatural.
- There are gems that are embedded in some of the walls of the Twisted Fane, placed there by wretches. The wretches were then writing on the walls near the gems using blood from victims.
## Prisoners rescued

- [[Thogrim Stonegift]], male dwarf

- [[Baltis]], human boy

- 3 more prisoners that we saved in [[80_20210617 The Foulspawn Monstrosity can't keep us from Reona]].
