Reya heard the voices of Nelson Seidel and Orzala Niran arguing, and learned that Nelson had been pretending to be the Spirit of the Lake and using the offerings to pay off his debt to Orzala, who was part of the Myriad. Orzala suggested he kill the Starosta so that he wouldn't have to pay his debts. > > After Orzala left, the party spoke to Nelson, who admitted he was in debt because his crops had failed and he couldn't meet the tithe payments to The Reapers. The party went and spoke to Orzala, who said she'd forgive Nelson's debt if the party found damning evidence connecting the Starosta to the disappearing offerings and if they also accompanied Olyffe to Hupperdook via Nogvurot to deliver "ice". All three are eventually killed. Having searched their bodies and found some personal effects, [[Wally]] and [[Xenia]] bury them in the garden at [[The Seidel Family Farm]]. - [[Reya]] sneaks up to the ranch and heard voices arguing. It turns out to be [[Nelson Seidel]] and [[Orzala Niran]]. She discovers Nelson's secret that he was faking the spirit of the lake and taking the offerings to pay off his debt to Orzala and [[the Myriad]], debt built up by his crops failing and owing tithe payments to [[the Empire]]'s tithe collectors, known as [[The Reapers]]. He hasn't been able to make his payments, so Orzala suggests he assassinates the local Starosta to solve his problems. - As Orzala becomes aware of the party making a noise outside with their burials, she leaves the house with a final threat to Nelson that the Myriad always collect their debts and always make good on their threats. She leaves swiftly and disappears into the night. - After some discussion - while [[Kalani]] and [[Promise]] search the outbuildings (unfruitfully) and I am saying some prayers under the moon for the dead farm thugs and the dog - the rest of the party enters the house and discover Nelson in tears and absolutely at his wit's end. After much discussion, we come up with a plan to help. Nelson would send his husband [[Alexander]] and their two children away and go and make a different deal with Orzala. - Following Nelson to an old fisherman's hut on the marshy northern part of the Eastern shore of the [[Erdeloch Lake]], we discover Orzala, who seems quite aware and almost entertained by their presence, and possibly recognises one or two of the party. - After some negotiations, during which the party very nearly takes on Nelson's 600GP debt, Orzala suggestes a different plan. The framing of the Starosta would be useful so the Myriad can install someone more amenable to them. The party must find a way to explain to the [[Righteous Brand]] that they saw something that will link the Starosta to the crime. - They will also need to find a way to accompany the ice deliverer, [[Olyffe]] Gravesteel, on his journey to [[Hupperdook]] via [[Nogvurot]].
