# [[009_20210622 Jailbreak in Hupperdook]]
## Session Summary
> [!tldr] [[009_20210622 Jailbreak in Hupperdook]]
> The party engaged the kobolds and goliath (Sken Zabriss) in combat. They eventually defeated the kobolds, who exploded, but Sken managed to disappear. They got some explosive seeds from the bodies of the kobolds. The crownsguard and Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle arrived, interrogated them, and then offered them a job: investigate Sken breaking out of the Gearhole Prison, bring her back, and find out who was responsible for the kobolds.
>
> At the Gearhole Prison, the TWC discovered that the explosion had come from inside the cell. They also came across a bounty hunter named Yinra Emberwind who found an almost-burnt note that Reya picked out of her pocket. The note talked about a ring and a humble of domain. The party also found an automaton, and were told to go to a Master Maker named Cleff Tinkertop to ask him about it.
>
> The party went to the Sootswallow Lodge and met the innkeeper, Lukas Gosvenor, who told them about a disaster at Vermeillon where he lost his wife and others in Hupperdook had lost their loved ones. He said there was an astrologer named Nihana Chist who had gone missing, along with some building materials and tools. The party slept at the inn and Wally had a fitful dream. ^summary

## Lulu's notes
- We start fighting the kobolds and the goliath (who we later learn is called [[Sken Zabriss 💀]]) after one of them, a kind of mecha kobold with embedded steel armour, shoots Auby and wounds him badly.
- Xenia uses the *eyes of charming* that actually works (twice!), and charms Sken who turns back and helps us fight the kobolds.
- We you defeat the kobolds and several of them explode, but we do manage to pry out two acorn-sized explosive devices from two of them before they went off. Reya throws one of them away and it explodes near Sken who, no longer charmed, casts a fog cloud and disappears into the shadows.
- On investigation of the remaining bodies (the rest were just splattered remains) Xenia finds 3GP and each had a heavy key around their necks, which he took off them. He also notices they had red clay on their feet.
- The [[Crownsguard]] and [[Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle]] soon arrive and ask us what our business is. During the conversation he offers a bounty of 500GP to your party (250GP up front) to investigate Sken breaking out of the [[Gearhole Prison]], bring her back, and find out who was responsible for the kobolds.
- Sken is apparently a [[Kryn Dynasty]] prisoner of war.
- Investigating the prison cell, we realise the blast had come from the *inside* of the cell. We also encounter [[Yinra Emberwind]], an elf bounty hunter investigating the cell before us. She had found a few pieces of burnt paper that Reya deftly picked from her pockets. Put together the note was burned, but read:
![[Sken's Note.png]]
> "Worry not. I am an ally of your comm..... no questions. Take this ring and follow .... my humble domain ....tand back!"
- We also find some brass shrapnel and, hidden under a brick, a mangled metal automaton about the size of a dinner plate that looks like a crab. We put both in the bag of holding, but not before one of the Crownsguards telling us he thinks Master Maker [[Cleff Tinkertop]] might know what it is. He was to be found down at the [[Building Plot]] with his daughter [[Rissa Tinkertop]].
- Asking some of the rather unpleasant prison guards questions about the chamber pots and passing of notes, they fetch [[Eleazar]] (the chamber pot changing prisoner) but fail to get any clues from him.
- We make our way to the [[Sootswallow Lodge]] where we are greeted by [[Lukas Gosvenor]], the old innkeeper – he's an old, dark skinned human who must be in his latter years. His head is crested with a white plume of hair almost like a mohawk.
- He tells us about the disaster at [[Vermeillon]] (3 days ride up the mountain) 20 years ago where he lost his wife, [[Lorna 💀]], in the mine collapse, and about disappearances of villagers not long afterwards. The only person left is the old astrologer, [[Nihana Chist 💀]], but he hasn't heard anything about her for a long time. He also mentions building materials and tools going missing recently.
- Asking around at the tables, we meet [[Seebo Welber]] and his apprentice friends. They tell us mostly what we already know about Sken and the [[kobolds]], and also that [[Blast Gaffer Sleese Firemark]] is very judicious about keeping track of blasting powder.
- We also learn that the best place to ask about the red clay is at the [[Lay of the Land]] herbalist in town. We decide to look for Cleff in the morning.
- Finally, we settle down for a good night's sleep after all the travel and action. Most of us sleep well in the saggy beds, and feel a sense of growing confidence in your newly emerging roles as adventurers. Wally, however, has a more fitful dream.
