# [[012_20210720 Sken not dead not alive]]
## Session Summary
> [!tldr] [[012_20210720 Sken not dead not alive]]
> After killing Sken and the kobolds and looting them, Nima wanted to go back to Hupperdook, so they barricaded the door to Stahlmast's lair. They went back into town, got the reward from Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle, and talked to Nima. Nima told them that the cave is a secret source of guano, a potent explosive material. The last time she went in there, she was captured by the kobolds and Stahlmast. Stahlmast was a former engineer for the Dwendalian empire who was shamed for his imperfect creations and immortal experimentation. He captured Nima so she would work on explosive devices for him, one of which broke Sken out of Gearhole Prison. Stahlmast, she said, wanted revenge against the empire and against Hupperdook.

## Recap
![[011_20210713 Where's Wally#^summary]]
---
## Lulu's notes
- We start mid-combat, in which we continue the long, drawn out battle in the cave. [[Sken Zabriss 💀]] tries to escape with her usual fog cloud trick, but is killed swiftly in her attempt to go through the steel door. Xenia puts the kobold sorcerer in the tent to sleep, and it spends the entire battle in slumber.
- After several attempts, Reya finally manages to release Wally (and later Nima) from his chains. Both Wally and Promise go for the grapple on the kobolds (as well as a good punch in the head). Reya manages to whip the key away from under the nose of one of the kobolds.
- Having made quick-ish work of the kobold underlings and avoided too much damage from them exploding, we kill off the kobold inventor and the last mecha-kobold, who puts up a good fight against our low damage rolls (!). Up in flames he goes in the end. Finally, quick rapier work dodging in and out from the tent does the most damage to the sorcerer, who has a rude awakening from sleep only to die shortly after.
- In the aftermath, there aren't a lot of bodies left intact, but we find:
- I find Sken's [[Ring of Obscuring]] (Reya now has this and attuned to it), and 5GP and 4SP.
- A vial of acid and a vial of alchemist's fire that Reya also has on her.
- Xenia discovers another diamond worth 50gp and two more lodestones on the kobold sorcerer, as well as another key, the same as the other two you already have.
- Nima is keen to get back home to [[Hupperdook]], so we decided to leave the steel door to Stahlmast's lair for another day. Wally and Promise push the two benches up against the door. Xenia uses Tenser's Floating Disk to bring Sken's body back down the mountain, stopping every hour to recast the ritual.
- Back in Hupperdook, the evening partying in Upper Hupperdook in full swing. Two [[Crownsguard]] stop us at the gate and marvel at the body of Sken. The handsome one, [[Floyd Hemsworth]] (I stare him down very intently; he smiles at me, and I blush), escorts us to see [[Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle]], who asks us about what we had found and seen and gives us the rest of the 250GP reward.
- Listening to him questioning Nima we discover:
- Nima has long been a munitions expert, developing refined explosives and weapons for the war effort against the [[Kryn Dynasty]].
- The cave is a secret source of potent explosive materials, and she has harvested guano from it for years. She normally goes there once every four to six months to stock up. On her last trip there, three weeks ago, she ended with captured by the kobolds and their master, Huron [[Stahlmast 💀]].
- A former engineer for the Dwendalian Empire (see: [[the Empire]]), Stahlmast was shamed for his imperfect designs and immoral experimentation (such as what he's been doing to the kobolds). He left Hupperdook years before and was assumed to have found his fortune elsewhere. Instead, he’s been building a lair beyond the waterfall cavern, sealed off behind the steel door.
- Stahlmast imprisoned Nima in the cavern and has been forcing her to produce explosive devices. One of those devices was used to help Sken break out of [[Gearhole Prison]]. She has also been working on plans for larger explosive devices whose purpose she doesn’t yet know.
- Stahlmast is bent on vengeance against the empire—and against the city of Hupperdook and its people.
- Hearing this news, Bram offers us 1500GP to capture or kill Stahlmast and bring back evidence of his plans to destroy Hupperdook.
- We agree to do this, but first a night's rest. Eschewing the bacchanalian pleasures of [[The Blushing Tankard]] in Upper Hupperdook, we head back to the [[Sootswallow Lodge]], have some food and a good night's rest after a bath and a bit of late night conversation.
- Will the Temporary White Circle find and defeat Stahlmast and save Hupperdook? What is the fate of the Filigree Fox that was destined for Starosta [[Emma Zezbok]]? What mysterious lay further around, up or within the [[Silberquel Ridge]] mountains? Who is the mysterious astrologer and what happened to the abandoned mining town of [[Vermeillon]]? What about Wally's contract with the hag?

## Andy's notes
We started mid-combat, in which you continued the long, drawn out battle in the cave. Sken tried to escape with her usual fog cloud trick, but was killed swiftly as she tried to escape through the steel door. Xenia put the Kobold sorcerer in the tent to sleep, who spent the entire battle in slumber.
After several attempts, Reya finally managed to release Wally (and later Nima) from his chains, and Nima likewise after the battle. Both Wally and Promise went for the grapple on the kobolds (as well as a good punch in the head). Reya managed to whip the key away from under the nose of one of the kobolds.
Having made quick-ish work of the Kobold underlings and avoided too much damage from them exploding, you killed off the kobold inventor and the last mecha-kobold, who put up a good fight against your low damage rolls (!). Up in flames he went in the end. Finally, quick rapier work dodging in and out from the tent did the most damage to the sorcerer who had a rude awakening from sleep, only to die shortly after.
In the aftermath, there weren't a lot of bodies left intact, but you found:
- Milla found Sken's [[Ring of Obscuring]] - Reya now has this and attuned to it - and 5 gp and 4 sp.
- A Vial of acid and a vial of alchemist's fire that Reya also has on her.
- Xenia discovered another diamond worth 50gp and two more lodestones on the Kobold sorcerer and another key, the same as the other two you already have.
Nima was keen to get back home to Hupperdook, so you decided to leave the steel door to Stahlmast's lair for another day. Wally and Promise pushed the two benches up against the door. Xenia used Tenser's Floating Disk to bring Sken's body back down the mountain, stopping every hour to recast the ritual.
Back in Hupperdook, the evening partying in Upper Hupperdook in full swing, two crownsguards stopped you at the gate and marveled at the body of Sken. The handsome one, Floyd Hemsworth, escorted you to see [[Watchmaster Bram Gulchswattle]] who asked you about what you had found and seen and gave you the rest of the 250 gp reward.
Listening to him questioning Nima you discovered:
- Nima has long been a munitions expert, developing refined explosives and weapons for the war effort against the Kryn Dynasty.
- The cave is a secret source of potent explosive materials, and she has harvested guano from it for years. She normally comes here once every four to six months to stock up. On her last trip three weeks ago ended with her capture by the kobolds and their master, Huron Stahlmast. A former engineer for the Dwendalian Empire, Stahlmast was shamed for his imperfect designs and immoral experimentation.
One of those devices was used to help Sken break out of Gearhole Prison. She has also been working on plans for larger explosive devices whose purpose she doesn’t yet know.
- Stahlmast is bent on vengeance against the empire—and against the city of Hupperdook and its people.
Hearing this news, Bram offered you 1500 gp offer to capture or kill Stahlmast and bring back evidence of his plans to destroy Hupperdook.
You agreed you might do this, but first a night's rest. Eschewing the bacchanalian pleasures of The Blushing Tankard in Upper Hupperdook, you headed back to the [[Sootswallow Lodge]], had some food and a good night's rest after a bath and a bit of late night conversation.
Will the Temporary White Circle find and defeat Stahlmast and save Hupperdook? What is the fate of The Filigree Fox that was destined for [[Starosta Emma Zezbok]]? What mysterious lay further around, up or within the Silberquel Ridge mountains? Who is the mysterious astrologer and what happened to the abandoned mining town of [[Vermeillon]]? What about Wally's contract with the hag?
So many questions...
