# [[023_20211019 Jumping out the window solves everything]] ## Session Summary > [!abstract] [[023_20211019 Jumping out the window solves everything]] > Having just left the mines, we went to take a long rest at the house of the starosta, Lei Duvezin. It is a two-story house that seems to have housed the entire Duvezin family, at least before they left. We found out that the starosta seems to have pieced together that it's been meenlocks that have been plaguing the town. She seemed to have wanted to stay until the very last, but even she could not help but succumb to nightmares. Despite seeing some shadows lurking around and hearing unexplained noises, we locked ourselves in one of the rooms and have a long rest. > > The next morning, when we woke up, we'd all had dreams of things we fear. When we opened the door, we were faced with an inky black darkness that seemed to have spread from the center of the house. Rather than fight it head on, we jumped out of the window. They spread by turning humanoids in a process over several hours. sensitive to bright light, sense shadows in the dark. They are subterranean creatures. - There is a book with a lock: _The Demonic Fragments of Perilleo_. Reya comes to unlock it. It has brownish red script, and will take days to read. - Top left: bed, partially covered in debris from collapsed chimney. It's cold. The bed looks like a child's bed. - Bottom left: double bed, fireplace - crumpled, half-written letters beseeching other nearby settlements for aid, including one to the [[Starosta Emma Zezbok|starosta]] of [[Hupperdook]]. One is stamped and sealed, but the seal is no longer sticking. - journal of [[Starosta Lei Duvezin|the starosta]] and her wife, [[Tifa Duvezin]]. - Disaster of the mine is chronicled, rescue efforts that were stopped because of the fear of cave-ins. - Villagers that go missing in the night, and her helplessness because she could not help them. - Tavin and Nia were their two children. They were evacuated. - Starosta's nightmares, waking up in sweat and with screams lingering in her ears. I hear something by the staircase and Wally sees a shadow. Reya casts Alarm by the stairs. The moon is behind the house right now. More light on the back windows than the front. The tree is casting grizzly-looking gnarled shadows across the courtyard. It looks like a winter landscape for me (black and white). I see shadows that seem to be moving around. - top right: bed, chest of drawers, chimney. The clothes in the drawers look like they are little boy's - bottom right: bed that is bare, doesn't have many furnishings in it. There is a sense of loneliness from this room. Mine accident was 20 years ago, and everything here looks like it hasn't been touched in that long as well. ```ad-warning title: My dream Even during your meditation, you find it hard to concentrate. Images flash through your head of being captured by tattooed men dragging you away, you hear the sounds of your friends screaming as they're put into cages on the back of carts. You want to scream, but cannot, because you are bound, blindfolded and gagged. ``` We all make wisdom saving throws. We get a long rest! - 18 Scura - 16 Wally - Something ```encounter players: - Scura - Wally - Xenia - Milla - Reya creatures: - Shadow ``` We wake up, and there is a black disk of darkness in the lounge! We jump out of the window. We hear voices in our head, but we shake it off-- except Reya, who turns and attacks Xenia! Milla and Wally are charmed for 24 hours: they just want to go down to the mine. I cast Eyes of Night. ```ad-info title: Xenia's notes We entered the mansion in Vermeillon from its door on the south. We started looking around in the first floor. We found a room with chairs and some books, where Xenia found raw platinum. We also found a room with a table and chairs. There was also an oil painting in the room. Wally checked if there is anything behind it, yet there wasn't. Reya checked the room on the right, yet felt something touch her shoulders which made her feel the goosebumps. Once upstairs, Xenia found a library and decided to spend some time there. Could this be the answer? #Meanlock, sensitive to bright light, live in subterranian caves. corrupted creatures of #feywild. They can sense darkness. Detected some magic on the arcane bookshelf. There is a book glowing which is bound in leather with gold hinges and fittings. #The_Demonic_Fragments_of_Perilleo Xenia sat on one of the chairs and started reading the book, leaving the party to what they might wanna do instead. Scura heard some noise from the stairs, so wally checked it, but just saw a shadow briefly. After reading about Meanlocks, we lit up a few torches and lighted up the candles on the walls. Also used our light spells on items on ourselves, to make it as bright as we can make it. We got inside of the main room, blocked the room's door with the bed and slepts inside. Most of us had an okey sleep, yet 2 of us had it worse, which made them have exhaustion. When we woke up, there was a magical darkness in the corridor, which we couldn't penetrate. We simply shut the door and jumped out of the window. Whatever was causing that darkness started playing games on our minds. Xenia had some damaging headaches before jumping out. As soon as we were out, Reya got effected by something and hit Xenia. Xenia survived the blow with Wally's help, and got a bit away. He also had some healing from scurra. Milla and Wally had some suggestion effective on them, they had the urge to go to the mines. The rest of the party followed them. ```
