We also found some knicknacks, and the tiefling realized that there were parts of the mines that were rigged to explode. > > Nihana Chist began to turn into a meenlock, and wouldn't accept any healing. She hung on just long enough to tell us that the temple was dedicated to Raei, but that Raei and Sehanine are intimately related and that there was a powerful artifact of Sehanine, called the Evening Moon, buried in the depths of the rock of the observatory. She said that there was a cult that have taken over the temple and want to destroy the Evening Moon and bring darkness to Exandria. She gave us a token and asked us to take it to Archivist Zeenoth in Zadash. She also mentioned taking a "leap of faith" on the lake. Reya killed her out of compassion. Xenia found a key on Nihana's body. > > We laid out Nihana with the two Meenlocks and I said prayers. Xenia, the thrill-seeker, set off a fireball, and we all ran out of the mines as the explosives were triggered. > > We got out safely and took a short rest by the lake, during which the tiefling glowed, and I caught a glimpse of a rune on her forehead. Later, I asked Xenia about it, and he said that he had heard that some people had the rare gift of being runechildren, blessed with the ability to draw arcane power from runes that appeared on their bodies. > > The tiefling jumped into the lake. She didn't find a path, but she did find a chull that came out to attack her. We disposed of it, but needed to take a long rest after the fight! > > Later that night, after our early long rest, we followed the tiefling as she somehow found a path in the moonlight, and it took us to a place that the lake turned into a stream. Do it now." Milla sees a booby trap with explosives in the mine. Xenia finds a key on a leather thong. It's about noon when we leave the mines. The lake is about 1km away, and on the other side is a building that looks like it has teeth. We have 6 hours of Aid left. We eat rations and have a short rest. The tiefling starts glowing and I see a rune on her forehead. Now we have 5 hours of Aid left. Xenia identifies the Ring of Swimming. The tiefling jumps onto the lake. It has tentacles and giant pincers like lobsters. Spiky. Survivors of ancient Aboleth empire. They follow ingrained directives. They are ancient, primeval. They are often placed to guard underwater relics or to fend off treasure seekers. I ask Xenia about [[Karmilla Duskbloom|The tiefling]]'s runes. He knows that some people, called [[Karmilla Duskbloom|runechildren]], can get their arcane powers from runes. We took a long rest. I put Vigilant Blessing on Wally. Scura, Xenia, tiefling get +5 HP and max HP. (Aid) The tiefling and I see a path in the moonlight. We go onto it, and the others follow us. We all have to do athletics checks to stay on the path. It seems to be a one-person path. The set of teeth IS the [[Temple of the Sun and Moon|temple]]. They have these tall spires, but they're flat on top. About 30 feet tall. The lake feeds into a small stream that flows past the temple. One has an inscription all the way down. They are carved with creatures and faces. Everything seems overgrown with grass and moss. There is a rounded pyramid, or a large blunt blade, about 7 feet high, sticking out of the ground. It has some sort of texture to it. I see that it looks like feathers carved into a statue. It looks like the tip of a wing. The wing must have been 10-15 meters in length. The tiefling sees footprints AND paw prints. It's like someone has been dragged.
