# [[026_20211116 Temple of the Sun and Moon]] ## Session Summary > [!NOTE] [[026_20211116 Temple of the Sun and Moon]] > We approached the temple, and our noisy approach caught the attention of gargoyles that looked like they were made of stone but were actually alive. We killed them, but I suffered some significant wounds when I charged in to help the tiefling. After the fight, Wally healed me with extra warmth. > > We entered the temple and start exploring rooms. In particular, we found a three-handprint symbol in blood (or "red paint") on an altarcloth. Wally recognized it as the symbol of The Crawling King, Torog - a Betrayer God. He is the god of imprisonment and dungeonkeeprs. We also saw symbols of both Raei and Sehanine in the reliefs. > > Wally spotted a building towards the back-- a dome-shaped building with a telescope going out of it. There is a cliff, and a rope bridge going from where we are to the rocky place where the dome is. I spotted a robed figure crossing the bridge, and we hid and heard the figure enter the building from the room next to the one we were in and then head upstairs. We followed upstairs. Reya and Xenia found acolyte robes and put them on. Wally went towards the altar, and I followed him. He looked behind the tapestry and we found a man in a blood-red cloak, and he pulled out a dagger. ^summary ## Recap of last session ![[025_20211109 The tiefling is the runechild#^summary]] --- ## Log We see this from the outside of the [[Temple of the Sun and Moon]]. ![[temple of the sun and moon - exterior.png]] Carvings of faces on the center spire. 7.5 hours of Aid This is elven work, pre-[[The Calamity]]. There were mages that were given powers of gods, and they got too powerful and thought they could replace the gods. The gods began to battle them and each other in a Calamity that scarred Exandria. Eventually, [[The Betrayer Gods]] were banished. The statue: Xenia surmises it's probably [[Raei]]. It probably fell and some of it is in the lake. We try to stealth but Wally is not stealthy. Suddenly statues come to life! ```encounter name: players: - Scura - Wally - Xenia - Reya - Milla creatures: - 2: Thing ``` [[Gargoyle]] AC = 15 Horny and Fangs. Seem to be resistant to slashing damage from Wally. Or psychic. Not resistant to necrotic. The tiefling's rune recharged and she reduced damage by 6! So she doesn't get damaged by Horny's bite. Resistant to piercing damage +0 wisdom modifier +4 attack modifier We go into the [[Temple of the Sun and Moon]]. We see a winged female figure with her arms outstretched and touching (?) above her head, and other figures kneeling on the ground. Wally sees figures of mercy, compassion, and healing. Xenia can't think of any religion that has anything to do with gargoyles, but he does know that gargoyles tend to frequent ruins of temples and such. They hang around places that are abandoned. Sometimes in cities too - old buildings that they can blend into (due to other stone gargoyles). They are also elemental evil. 1 hour Eyes of Night, from about 22:50 to 23:50. We see plain stone and mortar ![[temple-01.png]] ```leaflet id: temple-of-sun-and-moon image: temple-01.png height: 450px minZoom: 6 maxZoom: 10 defaultZoom: 7 zoomDelta: 1 unit: feet scale: 1 ``` There are footprints going north. We find an Altar with embroidered cloth. Xenia sees a winged figure on it that is probably Raei, but it's soiled. It's got three handprints in red liquid. The handprints are in a circle. There are candles with brass candlesticks. Doors. ![[temple-02.png]] ```leaflet id: temple-02 image: temple-02.png height: 450px minZoom: 6 maxZoom: 10 defaultZoom: 7 zoomDelta: 1 unit: feet scale: 1 ``` There is a funny moment when both Wally and the tiefling are trying to clean the statue, but it's so tight by the statue that it's very awkward because they keep getting in each other's way. ![[tiefling-and-wally-01.png]] ![[tiefling-and-wally-02.png]] Wally sees the three hands and remembers a betrayer god called The Crawling King, [[ttrpgs/Temporary White Circle/Torog]]. He was banished during the Calamity. He revels in pain that he inflicts. He is the god of prisoners and dungeonkeepers. He is the god of imprisonment, and of people that keep other people. Statue of female with sun over her head. Three red handprints on the wall above the head. I think the symbol of the looks like a tattoo!!!! Ok, maybe not the same, but familiar. The statue is made of brass, and it seems to have been made by an artificer or a tinkerer. Looks similar to Cleff Tinkertop (gnomish) craftsmanship. It is similar to the depiction of Raei. Just bashed on. Tiefling finds a relief that also has Sehanine. ![[temple_of_sun_and_moon-L01.png]] Towards the back is a waterfall. There is a building that looks like a dome with a telescope. There is a rope bridge going towards it. ![[observatory.png]] I see a person with a full-length cloak walking on the rope bridge towards us, then they go into the room next to where we are, and then upstairs, as if they know we're there. ![[temple-2ndlevel.png]] ```leaflet id: temple-2ndlevel image: temple-2ndlevel.png height: 450px minZoom: 6 maxZoom: 10 defaultZoom: 7 zoomDelta: 1 unit: feet scale: 1 ``` Four columns in the center, holding up the temple. There is dim light in streaks, from torches. It smells musty. On the north and south are steps that go up. ON the west there is a set of stairs and an altar-like area. Reya and Xenia found robes of acolytes. ![[temple-L02.png]] Reya puts on a dark grey robe, Xenia puts on a black one. There are also three larger chests. They see incense. They find a false bottom on the third chest. They see 30 gp and bloodstains that seem to have been left by a serpent-like dagger. The dagger is not there. Raei on one side, Sehanine on the other. Behind Raei and Sehanine is a constellation. Wally peeks behind the tapestry. He sees two candlestick holders with blood-red candles in them. But we also see a figure in a blood-red cloak. A man. He pulls out a dagger. - Scura 21 - Wally 18 - Milla 13 - Xenia 13 - Reya 5 ```ad-info title: DM's Notes - Having made your way across the lake you arrived at the temple. While investigating, you realised that the temple itself was merely the pedestal for an enormous statue to Raei that had many centuries ago toppled into the lake (perhaps it had created the lake or sunk into the lake?) - But as you were investigating, you noticed that two of the crumbling statues were not statues, but gargoyles who started to attack you. After a brief fight, you escaped into the temple entrance. - As you snuck around the temple, you discovered an altar with three bloody hand prints in a circle on it. Opposite, two closed doors that you didn't try to open flanked by a relief sculpture of Raei and Sehanine. Around the corner and down a passageway was a statue of Raei made of bronze that had been beaten and bent up. Above it, on the wall, were three bloody hand prints. - From this back entrance you could see the observatory on a rocky outcrop, connected by a rope bridge. - You saw a hooded figure running down from the observatory and into the temple. Staying silent, you waited until you heard their footsteps as they went upstairs. - Creeping upstairs, you discovered a more open space with pillars running down the centre. - At the back was a locked room with some chests and vestments hanging on pegs. In one of the chests was a false bottom within which you found 30 gp, and the stenciled outline of ritual dagger in blood. - Meanwhile, Wally attempted to stealth towards the tapestry of a constellation at the other end, but failed to be quiet. As he pulled back the tapestry, the hooded figure was hiding behind it. Roll for initiative! ```
