# [[043_20220322 Her name is FLOella not Cruella]]
## Session Summary
> [!summary] [[043_20220322 Her name is FLOella not Cruella]]
>
> The crowd settled down, and the auction began in earnest. Three bachelors were "auctioned off": Eric Leech, a geeky-looking man with greasy hair and glasses who went for 60 gp and was sold to his mum; Frederich Lacroix, a confident human man who went for 300 gp to Eliza Greenwalker; and finally, Floyd Hemsworth, who sparked a bidding war between Duchess Petunia Witson and Lady Crowsforth. Lady Crowsforth won him (apparently not for the first time) with a bid of 500 gp.
>
> A waitress "accidentally" spilled wine on Lady Floella while serving her, causing a commotion as both Lady Floella and an elven woman, Minerva, started to berate her. Wally cast _calm emotions_ on Floella, diffusing the situation temporarily as Team Book darted off after the dog, who was startled and took off running out of the room. I quickly fed it meat and patted it down, and found a paper in its locket that said _The meditations of Pelor, the Dawnfather_. I put it back in the locket.
>
> Reya, following me, saw a halfling we previously saw unloading things and taking them to the kitchen. He went into Floella's private quarters somehow, ostensibly with thieves' tools. Reya disguised herself as Floella and got herself, Xenia, and me into the private quarters after convincing the guards. I let Monsieur Gerard go, hoping to get him to go to the ballroom, but he didn't. Xenia cast _sleep_ on him instead.
>
> We didn't find anything in the first room, a study. To the north was a bedroom, and to the south was a second, more private, study. I scanned the bookshelves and found a book called _The Meditations of Pelor the Dawnfather_, and it was attached to some sort of chain. But the contraption was not magical.
>
> Meanwhile, Milla and Wally went to great lengths to keep the guards off our tail. Milla cast _fog cloud_, then _thaumaturgy_ to get the guards to go in the opposite direction. Wally persuaded Floella to go into the kitchen, and attempted to get guards to come to her aid, but they kept wanting to explore. He ended up also casting _fog cloud_.
>
> Reya peeked into the room on the right, and it was another bedroom. We need to hurry and figure out how to open this safe! ^summary

## Log
It's Lady Floella, not Fluella or Floella!
At the head table:
- [[Lady Floella Volcain Hemsworth]]
- [[Monsieur Gerard]]
- The 3 bachelors
- [[Floyd Hemsworth]]
- [[Eric Leech]] is a nerdy guy, fine brown robes, greasy hair, round glasses, no chin
- There's a woman in her 60s in similar attire to him that appears to be his mum. (Wally's table) [[Lady Jemimah Leech]]
- [[Frederich Lacroix]], cocksure of himself, about late thirties. Dressed a bit like Wally.
- ![[exandya-frederich-lacroix.png]]
At my table:
- There's a woman at my table, named [[Eliza Greenwalker]]. She is staring strongly at Frederich. Her eyes are a bit glassy.
- Dark-colored skin, man, looking at M. Gerard, seems to be shedding dust. [[Headmaster Oremid Hass]].
- Elven lady, white hair. [[Lady Minerva]].
[[Eric Leech]] is bachelor 1. Bidding starts at 50 gp. His mum bids 60 gp. He WAS sitting on Xenia's table, but he grabs his chair and pulls it to another table.
Frederich Lacroix is the name of the posh guy, bachelor 2. Men and women are bidding for him, including a man at Xenia's table. A young, half-orc man ([[Admirer of Frederich]]). Eliza is crying and starts to leave.
The damn dog is Marquesian. He was imported from a breeder on an airship. He even had his own cabin.
I tell [[Headmaster Oremid Hass|Oremid Haas]] that I was chased out of my home by people I don't know and that I left my pet behind, some sort of female wildcat.
Eliza comes back and it seems she was genuinely really upset. She has a damp handkerchief and she has red-rimmed eyes. She bids 300 gp. This is apparently a social faux pas. Frederich is glaring at Eliza. She wins. They walk stiffly out of the room.
The dragonborn seems oblivious to the tension.
> [!warning]- The tiefling does Detect Thoughts.
> She finds out that Eliza has a husband! And it's not Frederich. He thinks she's insane for having done this, but she just can't bear the thought of him going out with anyone else.
Reya's table
- [[Lady Crowforth]]
At Milla's table
- Plump female human with a green dress and a veil on her hair. [[Duchess Petunia Witson]]. She and Lady Crowsforth are in a bidding war for Floyd.
- [[Cressida Bell]]
The Duchess is fuming and breaks the wineglass as Lady Crowsforth bids 500 gp and wins. Floyd goes away with her.
The chandelier is enchanted to make people look better.
Lady Floella gets wine spilled all over her by a waitress. The (also elven) Lady Minerva runs over to her. Wally casts Calm Emotions on the high table as Lady Floella gets angry at the elven waitress.
People who have left the room:
- Eliza
- Frederich
Monsieur Gerard jumps up at the commotion, and leaves the room. I go after him and quickly look at his collar as I feed him steak. I find a button on the locket with paper. It says: _The meditations of Pelor the Dawnfather_. I put it back in the collar and start to take him back.
Xenia uses _Chronal Shift_ to help Reya sneak out. Lady Minerva and the male halfling guard/servant ([[Bene]]) come out and seem to be looking for Gerard. But they duck away. Reya casts _Disguise Self_ and convinces the guards she is Lady Floella! They leave us alone and we are standing in front of the door to her quarters. We enter!
Meanwhile, Wally is still talking to Lady Floella. Lady Minerva reminds her of Monsieur Gerard and starts to leave the room. Milla follows her, stealthily. She telepathically talks to me to ask me to let the dog go. I do, but it doesn't seem to know to go back to the ballroom. Xenia casts _Sleep_ on it.
Inside [[The Hemsworth Mansion#The Decoy Study]], Xenia casts _detect magic_ as a spell. I look in the bookshelves for a book called _The meditations of Pelor the Dawnfather_.
- Ledger on the desk, but it's household accounts.
- Bookshelves don't have anything like that. More like records of investments and things in the wine cellar.
There are leather straps underneath the table. Like loops? Reya can't find anything from an investigation check, but Xenia rolls really well. There was metal that was on the strap. Someone keeps a crossbow under there.
Meanwhile, Wally follows Lady Floella out of the ballroom. She's looking for her dog, and she finds it freshly awakened, with Milla. Wally attempts to convince Floella to go to the kitchen to wash her dress, but it definitely does not work. Milla casts _fog cloud_. Wally breaks character, not knowing Milla cast it, and asks Floella to follow him, thinking that the Kryn may be attacking. Floella freaks out and starts to yell for guards!
In the study, there is a chest. We open it and there is a ceremonial rapier, medals, and old uniforms.
To the north, Reya sees only a bed. [[The Hemsworth Mansion#Bedroom 1]]
I cast _see invisibility_.
Milla drops _fog cloud_ and makes a noise in the opposite direction to draw guards away.
Reya and Scura step into a private study ([[The Hemsworth Mansion#The Real Study and Game Room]]). There is a smaller table, a desk in the corner, and a bookcase in the top left. The next room to the right is a small bedroom.
There is a book called _Fiends and Fortresses, Player's Handbook_, _Fiends and Fortresses, Gamemaster's Guide_, _Warhorses and their care_, _Meditations of Pelor the Dawnfather_. That one! That one!
It's a book with a perfectly matched spine. I almost missed it. There's a complex chain on it with a maze and a pin ? I call Xenia.
Meanwhile, Wally casts _fog cloud_ again! He's still trying to get everyone to come to the kitchen. "To your lady! To the kitchen!" He's trying to draw the guards away.
![[exandya-hemsworth-mansion-02.png]]
In this game, Xenia used:
- 1 _chronal shift_
- _sleep_ on Monsieur Gerard
- _detect magic_ as a spell, cast when we first entered the bigger study
