Meanwhile, I spotted a female dwarf with the carriage of Lady Minerva. I let her go when she seemed to realize that the jig was up. > > Reya gave me the symbol of Torog and the bone whistle we got from the safe, and we headed off to the Lady Floella Hemsworth Home for Disadvantaged Children to frame Frau Peitsch. Reya went in through the front door and showed us all to what she'd once called her home. She revealed that her name had been Avalyn Spirechild. > > I went upstairs, still invisible, with Wally following behind me. I managed to unlock Frau Peitsch's study/bedroom door and hide the whistle and the symbol of Torog in among her files, and Wally cast Sleep to help me out when the nasty dog that was in her room started to sniff me out despite my temporarily appeasing it with meat. She attempted to defend herself and her family when gnolls attacked her village, Alfield, but her magic also set a lot of the village (including her parents) on fire, and her own people cast her out. She had been sent to the orphanage as an act of mercy. I see a carriage with two fine-looking horses. There is a dwarf sitting there that was waiting for Lady Minerva. - ![[twc-dwarven-carriage-driver.png]] - Round 9 - Milla: Follows behind the _twilight sanctuary_ and holds an action to attack the elf if she does anything. She hears the elf decide that she's going to try to leap off the roof. - Elf: Attempts to jump off the roof. - Wally takes his reaction to hit her and use _sentinel_ to stop her from moving. Her speed is reduced to 0. She says she gives up. - Bobby and Skinny go down the ladder with her. - Wally: The Crownsguard are taking the elf to the [[Umber Dungeon]]. Xenia climbs the roof (pretending to have dropped something there) and investigates the dead body of the bard. He has a shortbow with him, leather armor, an entertainer's pack (disguise kit, waterskin, costumes), letters in red bound leather, 58 gp, 9sp, 15cp, lute. Reya gives me the symbol of [[ttrpgs/Temporary White Circle/Torog]] and the flute. [[Lady Floella Hemsworth Home for Disadvantaged Children]] is in the west slums. We head west. It's only about 10 minutes. It's an imposing stone building - it looks like a government building. It has several windows on the ground floor. It's a two-storey building that is gray and drab. It has bars on the windows. In freshly engraved letters across the stone doorway entrance: _Lady Floella Hemsworth Home for Disadvantaged Children_. Wooden imposing doors. Reya knocks on the door. A human woman opens the door in an austere dark brown outfit. She is lean, not ugly. She's neat. Reya says she wants to see her old home again. They invite her in. My Stealth is 24. [[Reya]] signs in as *Avalyn Spirechild*. We get given some sort of tour. We hear [[Frau Peitsch]] drilling children and maybe hitting them as they get numbers wrong. ![[twc-orphanage-01.png]] [[Misty]] locks the door behind us. Reya gives me the Thieves' Tools. Wally will go up with me, but behind me. Natural 20 for unlocking the door! I see a carving of "Reya" and her stabbing something that looks like Frau Peitsch. Wally goes into the bathroom and freshens up. ![[twc-orphanage-02.png]] > [!question]- Reya and Milla, downstairs... > Reya sees the half-elven girl, the one we saw in [[The Hemsworth Charity Auction]], operating a sewing machine. There are some Righteous Brand/Crownsguard uniforms stacked up on the table. > > Mezelya is the name of the half-elf girl. Reya sits down next to her and introduces herself as Ava. She says she knows how hard it is to be a half-elf. Mezelya looks down at her hands and says she's been bad. Reya says that she's set the place on fire before. > > Mezelya says she has sparks of fire on her hands. That's why she was sent away by her family. The flames don't hurt her, but people afterwards hurt her. It only happened a few weeks ago. There were strange men monster things that came (gnolls) killed her village and killed lots of people. She got angry and burnt the ones that came into their house, but her parents died. The people called her a devil, a witch, a fiend. ![[twc-orphanage-03.png]] ![[twc-reya-drawings.png]] Frau Peitsch comes out and recognizes Reya, but calls her Avalyn. "No good for nothing Avalyn". She says Reya was always a "scrapper". She calls the children "maggots". Reya asked Frau Peitsch who brought her. Reya just knows that she was brought to the orphanage by an elf. Reya adopts Mezelya! She gives Frau Peitsch 10 platinum in payment for Mezelya, and another 10 as a donation... all from the safe. A human girl asks Mezelya not to forget her. Mezelya just has a straw doll with a leg burnt off. We go to [[The Crossed Pikes]] with Mezelya. Mezelya comes from a village called [[Alfield]] that was attacked by gnolls. Quite a lot of it got burnt down, and some of the villagers blamed her, not the gnolls. A Crownsguard tried to help her and sent her to the orphanage instead of getting cast out onto the streets.
