Ophelia told us a bit more about her niece, Ahrisa, whom she admitted had "previously" had an impetuous relationship with Oenn Jagentoth, the nephew of Ionos Jagentoth. She asked us to bring Ahrisa back, but if we found them together, she asked that we scare them straight and do what we could to discourage the teenagers from being together, because it would likely end in bloodshed for both them and potentially more members of both families. > > We set off the next morning, and quickly encountered death butterflies that Pin had trouble avoiding. The tiefling froze the butterflies and gave us time to escape. However, she and I later walked into a trap set by some fierce-looking tabaxis that seemed to have been watching and following us. I remembered what Misty had said about her clan, the Night Back Clan, and convinced them that we were friends. The Clan were still dubious of Pin in particular, but they let us go peacefully and even offered us food, but also made us promise we wouldn't touch or defile any part of the forest. ^summary --- ## Recap ![[055_20220712 The other tiefling#^summary]] --- ## Log We have dinner with [[Ophelia Mardoon]]. She apologizes for how not fancy it is, even though it's probably the best food we've had for a while. Wally said they got together when a ferry sank and they nearly got eaten?? They were ice runners. They used to deliver ice. Xenia asks [[Ophelia Mardoon]] why she has fangs. Wally asks her if she is a woman of faith. We do see portraits of others in the house on the way to the dining room. [[Ahrisa Mardoon]], the niece. She's about 18 now, but 4 years then. Ophelia says she's not smart. She's untrained and doesn't really want to learn the family business. She's more concerned with romantic novels. Her head is lost somewhere else. She often speaks of falling in love. - Tiefling boy with red hair who is a couple years older. [[Nephew Mardoon]] Reya asks if it's possible that Ahrisa ran off with a Jagentoth. Ophelia has a flicker of irritation at a memory. She says that Ahrisa became infatuated with one of the Jagentoth boys, [[Oenn Jagentoth]]. She was told it had to end or it would end in blood most likely. Ophelia thinks that if she is with Oenn, then maybe they're just better off in the Savalirwood. Oenn is the son of [[Reese Jagentoth]], Ionos's brother. She really doesn't want Ahrisa to be with a Jagentoth. The Mardoons and the Jagentoths have been feuding for two generations. Since [[Ionos's father]] died and Ionos took over the business, he has expanded their alliances far beyond the borders of the Empire. He's been making and breaking agreements and expanding his power. She thinks that if we just killed Ionos, one of the others would step up. Ionos may be using artifacts he's finding to curry influence and favour. We head out of The Sybaritic Estate. Know where you are yet?` ^00d685 He doesn't even seem to know who I am, and asks me to get out of his head. ^e1b1ff Long rest! Pin leads the way, followed by Wally. Pin gets attacked by some butterfly-looking things that he can't dodge away from! He gets bitten. Initiative! - Round 1 - Pin is poisoned. - Wally - Milla: *Rime's Binding ice* - Xenia: *Firebolt*, but 13 doesn't hit them. - Me: *Toll the Dead* - Pin misses them - Butterflies: can't move because of what the tiefling did! - Round 2 - Wally calls for us to just leave them and run, while they're still bound in ice. We keep going. It's unpleasant, we're getting bitten by mozzies, and it rained recently so some places are a bit swampy. We smell death and decay. Milla and I got caught in a trap by some tabaxis. I asked them if they were [[The Night Back Clan]]. There are about 4 of them. I tell them about Misty. The one in the branches has dark fur. We convince them that we didn't kill Misty. [[Jor]], priestess of the Night Back Clan. They protect the wood from thieves that come to plunder it. They believe that one day, [[ttrpgs/Temporary White Circle/Melora]] will salvage the wood and return it to its former state. When Wally mentions the Mardoons, they scowl. They're not friends with the Mardoons or any other family because the families come, plunder, and defile the forest. They mention that they used to see a female tiefling with a boy, and they sometimes disappear together for a night or two. They haven't been seen for some time. True says she last saw them heading north. Tell [[Misty Grove]] that she is missed and that they hope she makes her way back to the tribe soon. The Night Back Clan said the butterflies are called *Death Butterflies*. The Clan ask us not to be foolhardy as we go through the forest. We shouldn't touch or kill anything.
