## Session Summary
> [!tldr] [[081_20230321 Red is for rage]]
> Wally got a Sending from Xenia, who had been unpetrified. We told him to meet us in Nogvurot. Wally and Halkin then tried to hide the bodies of the three Red Sashes, on Olyffe's request, and *some* of them did a good job (not Wally). They returned to find Archivist Zeenoth, and snuck around the back to wash themselves off from the blood before he saw them.
>
> Meanwhile, inside, Zeenoth met up with Dax, Music, and me. He told us that it would be safer to talk at the Shrine of Ioun tomorrow at 11 AM. After I asked him about The Augen Trust, he seemed guarded and soon left.
>
> Dax, Music, and I talked about what it meant to worship two gods. Dax revealed she sort of followed Avandra and Moradin, but didn't really have a close relationship with either of them. Music admitted that she'd had doubts about Sehanine after what happened to her, but that she'd gone back to worshipping Sehanine. She asked me about Pelor, and I said I preferred to think it was possible to love more than one god, and that they wouldn't get angry from me loving another. Music said she didn't want to be owned. Dax revealed that she was interested in bringing people back from death, including her mother. I asked if she'd be interested in worshipping Pelor and mentioned I could help her with that, but she said she'd think about it. Music and I went upstairs.
>
> The rest of the party went to Olyffe, then decided to head to The Mean Hog to reconnoiter. They saw five of the Red Sashes and a cloaked figure who turned out to be Ce, the middleman spy that had sent Halkin and his party on a mission to steal something from Caes Mosor. The mission failed, and resulted in Halkin becoming a dragonborn after much experimentation. Ce revealed that the person that had hired Halkin was the Plank King, in Darktow, and filled in some missing information about who Halkin used to be... but he didn't know anything about whether or not Halkin had a family. Halkin said he wanted to go to Darktow to find out. Later, Milla suggested that he accompany Music to Port Damali, too.
>
> Wally tried to pay the Red Sashes's bill, but the bartender was a jerk, so they killed the leader instead, and then Halkin was so intimidating that he others just dispersed.
>
> After everyone went back to the Calm Lily, Wally reached out to find Xenia in his mind, and succeeded. They had a touching chat about Xenia's experience in becoming petrified, and agreed that they would meet in Nogvurot in about a day.
>
> I cast Sending to Sabniss, the drow priestess, asking if there was any way I could help Wally deal with the voices. She said that consecution is the only way to keep him from going insane. ^summary

## Log
Wally gets a Sending from Xenia. ^ce0130
#sending to [[Xenia Palebender|Xenia]]:
> Meet us at Nogvurot. If you see a petrified boy near you, DO NOT save him. we just killed his entire family. Bring my book.
^fe137c
Response:
> Nogvurot it is then. Don't stall on your way there. Hope you're all right.

There are three horses left that are nicer than ours. There are some brand marks that Wally doesn't recognise.
We drag the bodies away from the Inn. [[Archivist Adon Zeenoth|Archivist Zeenoth]] was here - he went to [[The Shrine of Ioun]] but he has a room here (he's number three). Wally totally fails the animal handling check and is left holding a head. Halkin tries to hide it in a tree.
Wally tells [[Halkin Leafspark|Halkin]] to leave the head on next time.
8PM.
We see [[Archivist Adon Zeenoth|Archivist Zeenoth]]! Xenia sent to him too. Grrrrr. He knows Xenia had been petrified. We should meet tomorrow at [[The Shrine of Ioun]]. He was worried about [[Reya]] being a "loose end" but I vouch for her.
[[Pin Dunstorm]] didn't have much in the way of family. He did have colleagues that have been informed.
We will meet him at 11 AM at [[The Shrine of Ioun]]. Either that or at breakfast.
I ask Zeenoth about [[The Augen Trust]]. He knows they are supposedly a secret service spy organisation within [[The Dwendalian Empire]]. Zeenoth hasn't had any direct interactions with them but they lurk in the shadows and pull strings and observe. He's being slightly guarded and uncomfortable but I can't quite tell why.
Dax says there's no rule about worshipping just one god. She just doesn't want to talk about [[ttrpgs/Temporary White Circle/Avandra|Avandra]] much because she's illegal and unwelcome in [[The Dwendalian Empire]]. She likes change, creativity. [[ttrpgs/Temporary White Circle/Moradin|Moradin]] is about good, honest work. Dax doesn't really want to reach out to the gods, but she does recognise they're there.
[[Music]] turned her back on [[Sehanine]] for a while because she was connected to [[Selussa]] and she felt betrayed, but now she's not sure. She thinks she does worship Sehanine again now. Maybe it was all just part of a larger plan.
Music asks if I believe that special loyalty to one god might grant me some boon. I talk about the concept of "love" and ownership are intertwined. Often when we say we love someone, what we really mean is that we want to own them. She's not sure they care enough to own or love us. She says she doesn't want to be owned by anyone. I agree-- I don't want her to be owned either, I don't want that for her. I don't want that for myself.
Music asks if we can share a room. I say yes. :)
Dax is interested in taking people back from death. "Mostly" her mother. She's interested in the fact that [[Pelor]] can bring them back. Her mother got sick, and Dax got a note that she was sick while Dax was working on kobolds with [[The Stahlmaster]]. He didn't want her to go, but she went down the mountain anyway. She spent a few days with her. Then she died. There were no medics. They couldn't afford to pay for service. When she came back "home", everyone was dead at "the cave". Lots of people died.
Dax says "Things go the way they go. That's life." She said that maybe it's selfish for her to want to see her mum in [[The Golden Hills]]. Maybe her mum is happy with that.
I offered to help her worship Pelor. She said she'd think about it.
I turn in.
---
> [!tip]- The rest of the party talk to Olyffe
> [[Halkin Leafspark|Halkin]] grabs a coffee before bed. [[Olyffer Gravesteel|Olyffe]] admits he's fallen in love with [[Celeste]] and spend the rest of his life at [[Calm Lily Inn]].
>
> [[Wally]] talks about how we sometimes mess up people's lives. He likes the lilac shampoo they have at the Inn. Halkin promises not to chop off heads, just joints. And he'll drag bodies out as well.
>
> If we choose to visit [[The Mean Hog]], be wary. It's not a nice place.
>
> Halkin asks if [[Clint]] was really the leader of [[The Red Sashes]]. Olyffe thinks so but he's not sure.
>
> Evening is the time to visit The Mean Hog. Morning is hangover time. Of course that's an option as well.
---
Wally knocks on my and Music's door to let us know they're going out for a nightcap. I say we're busy.
---
> [!tip]- The rest of the party go to The Mean Hog (without Scura)
> The other four go to [[The Mean Hog]]. They hear the sound of singing, drunk guys, occasional glass being broken. It's an average-looking inn. Pretty dingy. It's got a sign of a wild boar. They smell the stench of beer.
>
> There are ugly, gnarly, unsavoury people. Serving women are being groped up by the clientele, who are mostly men. One of the women is larger and friendlier than the others. Another woman is younger and more uncomfortable.
>
> Wally is counting red sashes. There are five in the "best" table.
> - half-orc
> - half-elf
> - tiefling (woman)
> - 2 humans (one man, one woman)
>
> They all look armed, about as much as the others we just killed. They have red sashes, but they're pretty tattered like they've been repurposed.
>
> Wally also sees a cloaked figure. He looks like he's got a beak. It's pretty full - they can't get a table. They just stand at the bar. They grab a stool for Dax when someone goes to the toilet. Next to her is a gruff, overweight human with a leather waistcoat who isn't happy about Dax taking the stool. He has bloodshot, watery eyes with jowly face. Halkin steps in, but he just vomits in the corner.
>
> The barman, who's human and looks like he's in 60s but is actually probably younger than he looks (he's just aged horribly) gets mad at the human and throws him out.
>
> Ale for Wally, Dax, and Milla. Coffee for Halkin.
>
> Some of the red sashes are gambling.
>
> It's almost 11 PM. They just sit there and drink a while. Nobody's really paying attention to them.
>
> Halkin feels like he knows the person with a beak and he's sure he's been in this inn before. He's getting restless and it seems like he remembers something. He recognises the bird person as the person who got him in all the trouble in the first place. Halkin tries to grab him by the beak but the bird grabs Halkin's hand with his talons before he can do that. "Don't touch the beak."
> - H: "You sent us to our death."
> - Bird: "I have no idea who you are." Halkin remembers the name [[Ce]]
> - H: "Maybe you don't recognise me. I'm Halkin."
> - C: "Halkin the Halfling?" Sit down and take this drink. Be very quiet. Tell me how you know me.
> - H: "I don't remember too clearly. I just remember I was in [[Caes Mosor]] trying to get something on a mission. I got caught and [[The Corrupted Coven|the hags]] got me. I don't remember what happened next."
> - C: How did you become this? (dragonborn)
> - H: They experimented on me. They needed muscle and whatever they did, it stuck. Now I'm in this form and very bulky.
> - C touches Halkin's snout and Halkin lets him.
> - C: "Do you remember with whom you went to [[Caes Mosor]]?"
> - H: Not everyone. I jsut remember an axe I took from someone.
> - C: "What became of [[Hilda]]? Your wizard?"
> - H: I don't remember that one.
> - C: It seems you took on the mantle from [[Kerrig]] (?) of a barbarian. To think you were supposed to be a sneaky halfling rogue. Do you know who I work for?
> - H: I have no idea. That's all I remember.
> - C: Maybe that's for the best. We've come out alive, better than the other two. You're a handsome dragonborn. You always wanted to be bigger.
> - H: Do I have a family? Do I know anyone? I just need to remember.
> - C: I was just the middleman. As far as I know you had no family, or at least you didn't tell me about them. It could cause some trouble though, if you went searchign for someone who commissioned us for the job.
> - H: But I just need to know. The witches did horrendous things. I need to remember something to help me get over it.
> - C: What will you do if I tell you who gave us this job?
> - H: I just want to speak to them.
> - C: Halkin, Halkin, Halkin. If I give you this information and it comes back to me that something has happened, i will make sure I hunt you down and whatever the witches did to you, I assure you I will hurt you just as bad.
> - H: I promise you I won't do anything else. You're the only link I have with my past. Please just help me.
> - C: Have you heard of The Revelry?
> - H: No.
> - C: The Revelry are a collective of captains. Pirates. They mostly operate off [[The Menagerie Coast]] and have an agreement with [[The Clovis Concord]]. They attack and plunder [[The Dwendalian Empire]] vessels but leave Clovis vessels alone. There's an island called [[Darktow]] where you'll find a goliath known as [[The Plank King]]. I had no direct contact with him but through an unknown contact. This was done through Sendings and sending stones. I never knew who the person was but I knew it was a contract from The Plank King. You could head there. I'm truly sorry about what happened to you. We're in a mean business with a rough line of people. A clean death would perhaps have been preferable to what you've been through. I think it's time for me to take my leave.
> - H: Do you know anything about those red sashes?
> - C: Brigands. Boys too big for their boots. They're opportunists and bullies. The main one, Clint, has been particularly aggressive and has been extorting money from some of the inns. They have a very large tab here that they haven't paid for a long time, but the barman, Han, is a bit over his head. He's not going to send them out either.
> - H: How many of them are there?
> - C: Their numbers grow and retract. They get into plenty of fights, even with themselves. Maybe they're just cockroaches that need to be stamped out.
> - H: Do you mind if I stomp on them?
> - C: I don't mind what you do as long as I'm not involved. I wish you well, Halkin. I'm sorry for your predicament.
>
> Ce stands up. He's quite tall. He has bird-like joints on his legs. He's remarkably stealthy and doesn't attract attention, though people give him distance when he leaves.
>
> Halkin goes back to the party and explains about the red sashes.
>
> The gambling has died down. There are only about 12 people in the tavern now.
>
> Wally talks to the bartender about the bill that hasn't been paid. The bartender says the fights they were causing cost him more to repair than just letting them drink and have women with them. That's the deal. None of Wally's business though. 2sp for a drink btw. Have you seen the size of Grem back there?
>
> Wally proposes that they just leave because only Clint was shaking people down for money.
>
> The half-orc grabs the tall, slim half-elf with short black hair and pushes him back against the wall. "You cheated. Give me my money back. I know you and your long fingers." The half elf starts to reach for his daggers.
>
> Halkin says they should take the fight outside and walks out. Everyone eggs "Grimak" on. Except for that half elf.
>
>
> ![[1679434147348 - Combat]]
>
> The half elf reaches into the corpse and takes a pouch from it.
> Milla and Wally may start a fishing company?? Milla will provide the ice.
>
> Wally tries to find Xenia with his mind, WTF. He goes somewhere quiet and that helps. He concentrates. He starts to feel the mind of Xenia. He hears Xenia muttering, like he's trying to read.
>
> - W: *Xenia? Is that you?*
> - X: Is that you?
> - W: You're alive! What's it like being a statue?
> - X: It was a revelation. it's horrific. First of all... gods are real.
> - W: Oh I know.
> - X: Whatever I read, it was always in theory. But now I know they're real. Also, it's hard to find information in the books about people being petrified and coming back. Time passes normally, but it's just completely blank and you just wait. It was really hard. I'm really happy to hear a voice. The first thing I heard was from that god, then our stony friends helped me. I can't even imagine being there longer. It's just a void and you just perceive everything. It would be really maddening.
> - W: How far away are you?
> - X: I'll be about a day away. It's still a bit dangerous but the stony friends are accompanying me. I met up with the Night Back Clan. It was Melora who just helped me get de-petrified and guided the Night Back Clan back to me. They're helping me get back to Shadycreek.
> - W: I'm glad, because you wouldn't have made it here alone!
> - X: I guess you're in Nogvurot?
> - W: Yup
> - X: OK, I'll be there.
>
> Wally has to make a Con save for some reason but he succeeds.
>
> Milla asks Halkin what he's going to do. Halkin feels he needs to go to Darktow. He feles like he has family that he's missing. He needs to find out in case they're really worried. He needs to find them. Milla suggests he go with Music.

#sending to [[Sabniss]]:
> My friend is suffering more and more from voices he can't unhear. What can I do to help him without taking him to you? Medicine?
Response:
> [[Consecution]] is the only way. He will eventually go insane. That was his choice.
