South Soffit is an underground working class district of [[ttrpgs/The Great Dark/Newfaire|Newfaire]]. It's known for being the place where the servants of those who live in [[The Eaves]] live.

The only (natural) sources of light in South Soffit are the two clerestories (walls with windows):

- [[Sunrise Clerestory]]
## Society in South Soffit
Social classes have developed in South Soffit, even though they are mostly the lower classes within [[ttrpgs/The Great Dark/Newfaire|Newfaire]]. One's social standing and wealth is apparent in:
- the proximity of their home to sunlight (the closer to the clerestories, the better)
- how high they live (the closer to the bottom, the safer and the better)
People in The Eaves own their land in The Eaves and the land below it in South Soffit according to a legal principle called *the Sunbeam*: the line of ownership moves around as your servants move around. You own where your servants live. They always owe you rent (!) and they can't get away from you.
## Locations in South Soffit
South Soffit is like a underneath The Eaves that is about 20 stories tall, and it's kept up by six pillars:
- [[The Oak]] is the central, tallest pillar that goes all the way up to the arch. Very wide in diameter.
- [[The Pine]]
- [[The Holly]]
- [[The Spruce]]
- [[The Maple]]
- [[The Birch]]
Directions in South Soffit are given based on the nearest pillar:

- "Hollyward"

South Soffit also has a vertical component to it, and that's made up of three levels:

- [[The Nests]] - middle level, home to Birdies
- [[The Lawn]] - lowest level, home to Toads/Sunflowers

## Getting to and from South Soffit
There are two ways to get to and from South Soffit:
- [[The High Steps]] is a stairway
- [[The Conveyer]] is a big freight elevator
Both go to [[The Eaves]].
## [[Magick]] in South Soffit
A pentagram was worked into the architecture of South Soffit such that there are magickal leylines going from The Oak to each of the other five pillars, leaving room for The Oak to be the focus of magickal energy.
