# [[003_20201129 The Wavechaser]] ## Session Summary We had just climbed on board the Wavechaser when we looked over the bow of the boat and saw Joao along with other villagers of Flora Isle attempting to swim to the Palma Flora mainland. Spurred on by Elanza, Joao's sister, we persuaded Captain Three Earrings to dock again at the eastern side of the island. We were able to rescue six more villagers by killing a sahuagin that was hiding, and we brought them with us onto the Wavechaser, with the approval of Captain Three Earrings. Captain Three Earrings told us that a sahuagin named Selachai had recently acquired a magical rod that seemed to have granted her extra magical powers, allowing her to cause Flora Isle to sink in addition to possibly amplifying her telephathic ability to control the sharks. We decided to try to get the rod back from Selachai, and Three Earrings gave us a cabin to sleep in. The next morning, we stopped at Port Damali to pick up some supplies, including diving helmets given to us by Hektor, a contact of Three Earrings. Hektor the blacksmith told us these diving helmets last for 24 hours and can be used once a day. We headed back to the ship to set off for Flora Isle and had bedded down for the night when we were woken up by Boerth, one of the crew, yelling that a ship had been spotted and by the magically amplified voice demanding that we surrender. "I am Lieutenant Commander Voskiir Larth. I am looking for the pirate known as Three Earrings. We do not wish to harm anyone else! In the name of the laws of the Clovis Concord, surrender her, or all your lives are at stake!" ^summary ## Recap ![[002_20201127 Palma Flora#^summary]] In the last session, the bagpipe-playing captain, [[Orly Skiffback]], dropped off Boris and Lira at [[Flora Isle]], where they prepared to go shark-hunting. Just when they were waiting for the tournament to begin, an earthquake rocked the island beneath their feet. Sahuagin, fish-like humanoid hunters, began to rise from the sea, attacking villagers indescriminately. Thanks to a high Perception check, Boris realized very early that the island was sinking, and every few minutes brought it closer to the circling sharks that seemed to answer to the sahuagins. Boris and Lira saved two young shark hunters, Joao and Elanza, from sahuagins. Joao ran to the northern side of the island, eyes flushed with the thought of battle, while Elanza went east with Boris and Lira to the docks. They helped sailors fight against sahuagins and giant crabs, and were allowed to board the Wavechaser, welcomed by Captain Three Earrings, a cat-like humanoid. Immy: You arrived on the island and had talked to some of the villagers. You helped [[Ravinha]] fight off a sahuagin before you also found your way onto the Wavechaser. Continue from [[Tide of Retribution]] part III. If players decide to help out on the North shore - [[Captain Three Earrings]] will sigh and give the orders to dock on the east again, explaining that they can't get closer to the northern side because of the reefs. - When players get to the northern shore: - Explain [[Underwater Combat]] rules > The fifty-foot-wide channel that separates Flora Isle from the rest of Palma Flora is impassable after the earthquake splintered the bridge. By the look of it, the northern part of the village is suffering the same aftershocks as the island, and people are fleeing in droves. > A dozen villagers stand on the north side of the channel, all of them calling encouragement to the six villagers currently swimming across. But their calls turn to screams as three fast-moving sharks tear through the channel. Encounter: Three reef sharks, telepathically commanded by sahuagin. - Sahuagin on Duty. The reef sharks aren't aggressive unless threatened, but a sahuagin raider is commanding them to attack. If the sahuagin is killed, the sharks swim away and leave the villagers alone. This sahuagin is lurking underwater in the middle of the channel. A creature that is underwater and succeeds on a DC 10 Wisdom (Perception) check sees the sahuagin. To creatures above the frothy, blood-clouded water, the sahuagin is heavily obscured. - Saving the Villagers. Any villagers who are saved promise the characters that they'll remember their bravery. If the characters ever visit another settlement in the Menagerie Coast (such as Port Damali or Nicodranas) in future adventures, one of these NPCs might have settled there and can become a local resource for the characters. - Treasure. One of the villagers aided by the characters shows their gratitude with the gift of a family-heirloom golden bracelet (worth 25 gp). - 16 Lira - 11 Ora - 9 Boris Battled the sharks, Lira spotted the sahuagin and they killed the sahuagin. The sharks dispersed.
