# [[013_20210213 Getting to the Temple of Uk'otoa]] ## Session Summary Ora was talking to one of the lizardfolk when the telepathic connection was severed abruptly. The party decided to progress further into the jungle, and eventually came to see the ruins of some houses clustered around a large stone structure that was patrolled by several snake people. Ora attempted to communicate with a reptilian humanoid that was tied up, but its mind was garbled and confused. The only clear idea she got from it was the name "Eryn" and the image of a pretty half-elf woman. The party decided to press on and use the time between patrols to their advantage, running up to the mist-covered top of the stone structure. Boris stumbled and called some attention to the party, but they managed to make it to the top. As Jamedi weaved in and out of the mist, covering their advance, the others quickly dispatched a snake person and spilled blood to open the temple. The floor of the temple opened, turning into a slide, and they were all dumped into The Temple of the Cloaked Serpent, with the stone entrance sliding shut behind them. The party discerned two different styles of the carvings in the temple: one with stories of Zehir, the cloaked serpent god; and another about Uk'otoa, the leviathan. It seemed that this temple had been repurposed by Uk'otoa's followers. After discovering some loose stones and cleverly working out that they triggered a mechanism in the two alcoves when simultaneously stepped on, the party was separated by stone walls: Boris and Lira went into the left alcove, Three Earrings remained in the center room, and Ora and Jamedi went into the right alcove. Both alcove groups took the vials of brackish liquid, triggering a pressure-sensitive trap. ^summary ## Housekeeping - Don't forget your abilities. - Ora: Psi-Bolstered Knack (ability check) - Boris: Divine Fury; Mote of possibility (attack, ability, saving throw) - What should we call our adventuring party? - Boris: your rage only halves physical damage - Light armor takes 1 minute to take on and take off ## Recap ![[012_20210131 Caught between lizards and snakes#^summary]] ## Strong start Ora is talking telepathically to the one of the lizardfolk. After some time, she hears "Snake people come!" and then nothing else. She gets the sense that there's no longer anything on the other side of the connection. ## Magical items - [x] Cloak of Many Fashions - Ora - _Wondrous item, minor tier, common_ - While wearing this cloak, you can use a bonus action to change the style, color, and apparent quality of the garment. The cloak's weight doesn't change. Regardless of its appearance, the cloak can't be anything but a cloak. Although it can duplicate the appearance of other magic cloaks, it doesn't gain their magical properties. - [x] Immovable rod - Boris ## Scenes - [x] Ora and CTE have disadvantage on con checks. DC 10 for them to shake it off. - [x] Jamedi urges them on through the jungle, stops at the edge of another clearing. - [x] CTE climbs up a tree to scout, maybe challenges Ora, sees the entrance to the temple heavily guarded - [ ] Broodguards flay lizardfolk - [x] Human transitioning into a broodguard - [x] Jamedi suggests killing one pair of guards as quickly as quietly as possible, or stealth ## Secrets and Clues - [ ] Tensions between [[The Revelry]] and [[Clovis Concord]] are extremely high. They've gotten to [[Darktow]] a few times. The [[Plank King]] is getting desperate. - [x] The "temple of Uk'otoa" has actually been repurposed as a temple to Zehir, and the orbs actually keep Uk'otoa bound rather than setting him free. - [x] [[Uk'otoa]] was created by [[Zehir]] but sought more power after Zehir was sealed away in [[the Divergence]]. - [ ] [[Captain Three Earrings]] now carries the orb from the Rod of Retribution on her chest, where it's magically embedded. - [x] The stone entrance to the temple opens with blood from the wielder of the orb. - [ ] - [ ] - [ ] - [ ] - [ ] ## Fantastic Locations - [x] Approaching [[Temple of the Cloaked Serpent]] - A large stone structure rises up from the otherwise flat forest, magically cloaked, can't see top (mist). Four stairways leading up to it - serpentine guards clustered around hunks of flesh and meat on sticks - the remnants of lizardfolk - rustles in the trees and occasional calls from other areas (guards) - makeshift shelter among ruins of a village - [ ] - [ ] ## NPCs - [ ] - [ ] - [ ] ## Monsters - [x] Yuan-ti: broodguards, purebloods, poisonous snakes, coral snake - [x] Lizardfolk: lizardfolk scaleshields, shaman ## Loot - [ ] 500 gp - [ ] Animated shield (Major, Very Rare) - While holding this shield, you can speak its command word as a bonus action to cause it to animate. The shield leaps into the air and hovers in your space to protect you as if you were wielding it, leaving your hands free. The shield remains animated for 1 minute, until you use a bonus action to end this effect, or until you are [incapacitated](https://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/rules/basic-rules/appendix-a-conditions#Incapacitated) or die, at which point the shield falls to the ground or into your hand if you have one free. - A shield is made from wood or metal and is carried in one hand. Wielding a shield increases your Armor Class by 2. You can benefit from only one shield at a time. - [x] Deck of illusions - [ ] Instrument of Illusions - _Wondrous item, instrument, minor tier, common (requires attunement)_ - While you are playing this musical instrument, you can create harmless, illusory visual effects within a 5-foot-radius sphere centered on the instrument. If you are a bard, the radius increases to 15 feet. Sample visual effects include luminous musical notes, a spectral dancer, butterflies, and gently falling snow. The magical effects have neither substance nor sound, and they are obviously illusory. The effects end when you stop playing. --- ## Log Both Ora and Three Earrings still have disadvantage on constitution rolls. Three Earrings challenges Ora to a race up to the top of the tree to scout. Ora accepts, but of course Three Earrings beats her. They both see several squads of these snake people patrolling around the temple in waves, never leaving earshot. They see what looks like the remains of lizard people on sticks, being cooked by two other snake people. They see one humanoid figure with the beginnings of scales on its chin and a hand that looks reptilian, tied up near the lizard people. Ora uses Psychic Whispers to talk to humanoid in the process of being turned. She tries to get information out of them, but they are too far gone and can only respond in emotions and pain. They register surprise when she calls them a snake person, and sends Ora a glimpse of a half-elf woman and the name "Eryn" before the connection is severed. Ora sees the humanoid slump over, unmoving. The party considers freeing the humanoid, but Jamedi cautions against it, saying that it would be a clear sign that they are there to the patrols that are sure to notice. Besides, he muses that we don't know whether the humanoid would be on our side even if we did rescue them. [[Eryn]] - female half elf Party decides to run up one of the stairs of the stone structure, and into the mist. Mist wraps around them and obscures their vision of what's happening around the base of the structure. They come to face-to-face with a yuan-ti priest who is interrupted mid-chant and begins to shout out, but the party quickly kills it. They examine the body and find a deck of old cards ([[Deck of Illusions]]). - 13 Ora - 10 Boris - 18 Lira - 15 Jamedi - We stealth into the top, kill the priest at the top Jamedi and Three Earrings do themselves some damage Jamedi has activated his crimson rite on one of his scimitars Boris and Lira go into one alcove in the temple Jamedi and Ora go into the other Three Earrings stays outside Boris and Jamedi take the vials and hear a ticking noise from the pressure-sensitive plate that each one was lying on.
