# [[023_20210502 Little Dragons]] ## Session Summary After killing one of the displacer beasts and scaring off the other two, we all sat down to take a short rest while Jamedi skinned the creature of its hide, intending to perhaps fashion it into a magical item later. Jamedi did what he could, but said that someone more experienced with enchanting items might need to take a look at it to ensure its magical properties would remain in the hide. Pressing further towards the volcano, Ora managed to dextrously dodge out of a trap that had been set by the small, red-skinned kobold, Qresk, who had left his people because he was different from the rest of them. He told us that someone named The Mother leads his people in the worship of Vokodo, with the goal of one day allowing kobolds to take to the skies, staying true to their image of themselves as Little Dragons: descendants of dragons. Ora convinced him to stay with us for the moment. We encountered a T-rex in the forest, chasing what looked like a kobold riding a fire snake in the opposite direction. The T-rex was no match for us, and Qresk claimed the kill despite missing with his pot of green slime. Slitting open the belly of the beast, we found a partially digested body of a goliath wearing a tribal bandanna, a small sheath-sized bag, a dagger, and a shield bearing a diamond and cross icon. Ora looked ahead to find a safe place to take shelter for the night, and found a large tree not too far away, unusually green in a forest of graying trees. As nightfall approached, we reached the tree to find a deer-like creature by the base of the tree, in its last few moments of life. ^summary ## Housekeeping - Ora: Don't forget to use Uncanny Dodge. ## DM Reminders - Ora used Psychic Whispers on Lira, Boris, CTE. 08:30-14:30 - Boris asked for [[Viridian]] to be at the house when they return. - Cloak of Displacement - 1200 gp (400 gp and 25 days if hide is provided) ## Recap ![[022_20210425 Displacement#^summary]] ## Quest [[The Rumble at Rumblecusp]] ## Review the characters [[Ora]] [[Boris]] [[Lira]] ## Strong start Everyone but Jamedi has taken a short rest, sitting in a shaded spot in this makeshift path towards the volcano. Items to identify - rope of climbing - Potion of Fire Resistance Is there anything you want to do or talk about during the short rest? Jamedi still has both scimitars in hand as he's working over the creature we've just killed. His movements are practiced as he makes minimal tears on the body of the displacer beast. It's difficult work, because it requires knowledge of both leatherworking and of arcane magic, but he does what he can to preserve the beast's natural magic. When he's done, he holds up a coat of fur, matted in some places, that does seem to shift and glitch in that familiar way that we saw from the battle. "Is not finished," ha says gruffly. "Thing like this, we need someone better with magic items than me. I cut flesh, but I cannot bind magic to it permanently. I can also preserve, but is bit messy and takes time. Maybe we can do in village?" He will ask Boris if he can put the displacer beast hide in the bag of holding to avoid the attention of predators. ## Scenes - [x] They meet [[Qresk Bronzeripper]], a kobold inventor and trapsmith who has been cast out by his pack because of his inventions. - Trap: • **Slingsnare**. A concealed loop of rope or wire is affixed to a counterweight. When a creature steps into the snare, it must make a successful DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or be yanked into the air and suspended, upside down, 5 feet above the ground. The snared creature is restrained (escape DC 13). The cord is AC 10 and has 5 hit points. - [x] T-rex comes lumbering by. - [ ] The party see the kobold encampment for the first time. (after nightfall) ## Secrets and Clues - [ ] Boris's [[Lash of Shadows]] can poison a creature in combat (Dead Eyes and Serpent Venom). - [ ] A group of heroes named The Twelve, led by Damota Tarak, led a small group of worshippers of the Luxon to victory against the wild orc tribes of Xhorhas, leading to foundation fo the Kryn Dynasty. - [ ] Mother Krangor creates poison that is a potent form of [Encode Thoughts](https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/encode-thoughts). She brews it and then spreads it by way of the [alchemical skunks](https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/1624818-alchemical-skunk) that unknowingly disseminate it. The mist is made up of strands of people's thoughts. - [ ] [[Vokodo]] made a pact with [[Thunder]], the dragon turtle, to get Thunder to steer ships onto the island. In exchange, Vokodo would split some of the spoils from people arriving via one of the interplanar portals on Rumblecusp with Thunder. - [ ] Once the charm sets in, the kobolds ask villagers to move any seaworthy ships to the southeastern side of the island and sink any remaining ship parts near the beach to avoid warning incoming ships. - [x] The kobolds call themselves Little Dragons and are fed up of the way they've been treated by other races. Mother Krangor leads them in their worship of Vokodo. - [x] Vokodo (through Mother Krangor) has promised kobolds that there will come an age where kobolds once more take to the skies, in their rightful position as descendants of dragons. - [ ] Rumblecusp is unusual in that there are many portals on the island that lead to other planes. - [x] Kobolds, with the help of Mother Krangor's alchemy, have been able to tame creatures that cannot normally be tamed. The kobolds use them as mounts and as fighters. - [ ] Magic users are often taken by kobolds as sacrifices to Vokodo. - [x] Kobolds burn their right arms to the shoulder as a rite of passage, and they look at their skin regularly to see if there are any dragon scales that have formed there. ## Fantastic Locations - [x] The trap set by Qresk - A rope disguised using leaves and twigs lies on the ground - The rope runs up the side of a tree where a thick patch of ivy grows, and is attached to a boulder rolled to the base of the tree. - [ ] The Shaded Tangle - The whole area is noticeably colorless, like a bucket of bleach has fallen from the sky, damaging trees and grass and ground alike. - A rocky expanse with the very tip of a tower in the distance - the ruins of a castle - Cold temperatures and a ghostly quiet - no animals. - [ ] The kobold encampment - Two large rocks, with barriers made of loose branches and twine created in the gap between them, leaving a small entrance - A small river runs through the camp - Several huts and mounds of mud and scavenged materials - A larger hut, a shrine, by the entrance to the volcano. - A large pit of a tar-like substance is in the center of the camp, like a vat or cauldron. Lots of alchemical skunks are gathered around it. - [ ] The Elventree - Looks just like any other large tree in this ancient forest, but at its base, its roots are gnarled to the side, creating a small entrance. - A barometz lies dying next to it, a thick green vine like a severed umbilical cord. Heroes' Feast when it dies. - Inside is a small space, though still larger than it looks from the outside. A baby barometz, umbilical cord intact, lies sleeping inside. ## NPCs - [x] goliath fighter (echo knight) - [x] [[Qresk Bronzeripper]] - [ ] [[Eryn]] ## Monsters - [x] Kobold inventor - [x] T-rex - [x] dead Barometz - [ ] kobold patrol: 4 ember rage fire snakes + 4 fire brand kobolds - [ ] bulbous violets ## [[Loot]] - [ ] Cloak of the Manta Ray (offering) - [ ] Lantern of Revealing - [ ] Boots of False Tracks - [ ] Horn of Silent Alarm - [ ] 20 gp - [x] Headband of Intellect - [x] small bag of holding - sheath - [x] Dagger - [x] shield diamond and cross icon --- ### Dynamic maps needed - Wilderness Encounters - ? - Tribal Camp - kobold encampment - Elventree - shelter for the evening - Camp in the woods - T-rex ## Log I is late.
