# [[024_20210516 Fire Brand Camp]]
## Session Summary
We reached the large tree that Ora found, only to witness the last few moments of the barometz, a magical plant creature whose tether to this large tree had been severed and cauterized. Ora, hating to see it suffer, put it out of its misery, and in a way, it thanked her with a feast of fruits that grew out of the remnants of its wilting body.
Entering the tree, which Qresk could not enter, Ora found a journal from the previous inhabitant, the goliath fighter we had previously found in belly of the T-rex. Boris's newfound bandanna-sourced intelligence let him read the journal, learning that the goliath and his brother had found themselves transported to this island magically, and had managed to resist whatever ailed the villagers of Vo because of this tree's magical shielding. The goliath had discovered, after his brother was taken by "lizard-like creatures", that the bandanna was what had boosted his brother's intelligence and made him the leader of their tribe.
We headed to the base of the volcano, where Ora did some reconnaissance and determined that the only way into the volcano was the kobold village that Qresk came from. Qresk told us that kobolds would not welcome him, and would not welcome outsiders who came to intrude the volcano, which to them, was a god. We made quick work of some sentries and prepared to enter the village. ^summary
## Housekeeping
## DM Reminders
- Boris asked for [[Viridian]] to be at the house when they return.
- [[Cloak of Displacement]] - 1200 gp (400 gp and 25 days if hide is provided)
## Recap
In the morning, we all left Vo Village fairly quickly, fearing that whatever was affecting the villagers there would begin to affect us too, if we didn't put a stop to it. We were ambushed by displacer beasts with an innate ability to blur and shift enough to make them difficult to hit.

## Quest
[[The Rumble at Rumblecusp]]
## Strong start
🎧Rumblecusp > Woods
> The deer-like creature before you is lying prone, on its side. Its eyes are dull and glazed, but dart skittishly in your direction when you approach. You might almost believe that it was ready to leap in any direction, if the rest of its body was not lying so still and limp.
> Its hide is covered in green leaves, but the leaves seem to actually be _growing_ out of its body. It is bleeding from the underside of its belly, and not far from it lies a green tube that looks a bit like the protrusion on its belly, but the end of this one is shrivelled up, like it was burnt.
> Its limpid eyes gaze at you with apprehension.

## Secrets and Clues
- [x] Boris's [[Lash of Shadows]] can poison a creature in combat (Dead Eyes and Serpent Venom).
- [ ] A group of heroes named The Twelve, led by Damota Tarak, led a small group of worshippers of the Luxon to victory against the wild orc tribes of Xhorhas, leading to foundation of the Kryn Dynasty.
- [ ] Mother Krangor creates poison that is a potent form of [Encode Thoughts](https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/encode-thoughts). She brews it and then spreads it by way of the [alchemical skunks](https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/1624818-alchemical-skunk) that unknowingly disseminate it. The mist is made up of strands of people's thoughts.
- [ ] [[Vokodo]] made a pact with [[Thunder]], the dragon turtle, to get Thunder to steer ships onto the island. In exchange, Vokodo would split some of the spoils from people arriving via one of the interplanar portals on Rumblecusp with Thunder.
- [ ] Once the charm sets in, the kobolds ask villagers to move any seaworthy ships to the southeastern side of the island and sink any remaining ship parts near the beach to avoid warning incoming ships.
- [x] Rumblecusp is unusual in that there are many portals on the island that lead to other planes.
- [ ] Magic users and dragonborns are often taken by kobolds as sacrifices to Vokodo.
- [x] [[Lilov Aleksandr (Sasha) Anatolievich]] lived in the [[Elventree]] with his brother, [[Firsov Iosif Anatolievich]], after they both accidentally went through a portal from [[ttrpgs/The Slayers Five/Xhorhas]] into [[Rumblecusp]]. They stumbled across a tree that they realized the mist could not penetrate.
- [ ] The Little Dragons are Fire Brand Kobolds, a bunch of kobolds dedicated to the Bloody Flame, referring to their practice of submerging their right forearms into lava. They have, over time, developed a resistance to the mist, helped in part by their fast breeding time.
- [x] The barometz was killed by the passage of Ember Rage Fire Snakes going to Vo, burning everything on the ground where it passed and leaving a scorch mark on the ground.
- [ ]
## Fantastic Locations
- [x] [[Elventree]]
- Looks just like any other large tree in this ancient forest, but at its base, its roots are gnarled to the side, creating a small entrance.
- A barometz lies dying next to it, a thick green vine like a severed umbilical cord. Heroes' Feast when it dies.
- Inside is a small space, though still larger than it looks from the outside. A baby barometz, umbilical cord intact, lies sleeping inside.
- [ ] [[The Shaded Tangle]]
- [ ] The whole area is noticeably colorless, like a bucket of bleach has fallen from the sky, damaging trees and grass and ground alike.
- A rocky expanse with the very tip of a tower in the distance - the ruins of a castle
- Cold temperatures and a ghostly quiet - no animals.
- [x] [[Fire Brand Camp]]
- Two large rocks, with barriers made of loose branches and twine created in the gap between them, leaving a small entrance
- A small river runs through the camp
- Several huts and mounds of mud and scavenged materials
- A larger hut, a shrine, by the entrance to the volcano.
- A large pit of a tar-like substance is in the center of the camp, like a vat or cauldron. Lots of alchemical skunks are gathered around it.
## NPCs
- [ ] [[Eryn]]
- [ ] [[Firsov Iosif Anatolievich]] (alive) and [[Lilov Aleksandr (Sasha) Anatolievich]] (deaded by T-rex)
