# [[041_20211017 Killing Shemshime]] ## Session Summary Shemshime himself emerged from the book as if summoned by the singing spell that we were all compelled to sing, this time with the missing last stanza, and we fought the remainder of the shadows as well as Shemshime. Shemshime periodically employed psychic powers to do mental damage, take control of our actions, or confront us with our fears. During one of these, Jamedi unfortunately knocked Gailby unconscious, although he immediately fed her a potion of healing to stop her from bleeding out. The fight continued, but just when we thought that Shemshime had died, he rose again, at full strength, and we realized that we had to change tactics. Recalling the words of the last stanza, Ora suggested we try to recreate the conditions under which Shemshime was killed. In the absence of a millstone in the middle of a library, Boris and Jamedi teamed up and synchronized their attacks to recreate the damage that a millstone might do, and Shemshime was killed once and for all. Adanor unsealed The Firefly Cellar, and, as thanks, gave us two books: a Manual of Bodily Strength, that increases Constitution, and Shemshime's Bedtime Rhyme, which seemed to have reverted to its original form, a tome called Book of Exalted Deeds, that increases Wisdom and may also have some additional properties. Adanor also mentioned a woman he knew, called Ziri, who was an orc and a scholar. Nav reported on what she'd learned from the book _Halfling Superstitions_, including some information about spotting fey crossings and how their appearance was always conditional on things to do with nature, such as the movements of the moons and sun, a time of day, or the weather. We talked to Chessia Wakiam on behalf of The Revelry. She was impressed by how we handled the situation with Shemshime, and admitted she had spoken to Dr. Perriweather. She believed that we were representatives and, thanks to Flint's Zone of Truth spell, spoke candidly and truthfully about The Myriad's objectives. She said The Myriad wanted a truce between Myriad and Revelry ships, with the goal of potentially allying against the Clovis Concord, should there be a confrontation. We agreed to pass on the message to the Plank King. She also mentioned that after some time, once both sides had agreed to the truce, she might have a job for us that had something to do with an air ship. Boris got a message from Arund at the Dragon Slayer's Keep, who reported on the goings-on in Rumblecusp. Everything seemed to be going well, and construction on the keep and The Lost Mayflower was proceeding as expected. Before Dr. Perriweather left, he warned us not to trust Chessia and said that the reason she was so quick to trust was because she, personally, had something to lose from the treaty. ^summary --- ## Housekeeping - [ ] ## Recap ![[040_20211002 Shemshime's Bedtime Rhyme#^summary]] ## Strong start > ## Scenes - [x] **Event 6: Shemshime**: Party fight Shemshine and realize the only way to defeat him is to crush him, just like in the book. - Influence: `dice: [[The Firefly Cellar#^influence]]` - Things they can use to crush him: - The _Flying Book sculpture_ suspended from the ceiling in [[The Firefly Cellar#F1 The Stacks Balcony]]. - The bookcases in [[The Firefly Cellar#F1 The Stacks Balcony]] and [[The Firefly Cellar#F2 The Stacks]]. - The stone table in [[The Firefly Cellar#F2 The Stacks]]. - They can lure Shemshime into position using the book. - When something is dropped on him, Shemshime must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. Chessia is considerably more receptive. She suggests that The Myriad want to ally with The Revelry against the Clovis Concord, and initially suggest a truce between Revelry and Myriad ships. The party believe she is being truthful. Before Perriweather leaves with his entourage, he warns them about Chessia, and cautions them that she gave the information freely because she already stands to benefit from the establishment of the treaty, whereas he did not. They want to eventually break away from The Revelry. ![[book-manual-of-bodily-strength.png]] Level 9! - War between Xhorhas and Dwendalian Empire - [[ttrpgs/The Slayers Five/Palebank Village]]: what happened to it? - the female orc, [[Ziri]], that [[Adanor]] knows End: 4 PM
