# [[057_20220417 Half saved is better than nothing]]
## Session Summary
> [!NOTE] [[057_20220417 Half saved is better than nothing]]
> The corrupted dragonleaf tree was easily killed, but unfortunately, so were some of the children that had been working in what used to be Skabatha Nightshade's workshop. Ora managed to save two of the children, Will saved two of them as well, and a fifth one managed to levitate slowly to the ground as the gigantic tree was felled.
>
> During the fight, Athlonia and Irae switched bodies, but a few hastily yelled out instructions from the party caused them to understand what was going on and react quickly. After the tree was killed, Diesa's form changed to her original one-- that of a young, red-haired dwarven woman. You looked through the ruins of Loomlurch, and found three letters from Bavlorna and Endelyn, all addressed to Skabatha. You also found a spell scroll and some magical portraits, including a blank one that seemed to shift to paint the beholder's closest blood relative. Ora saw a changeling that looked like her, Boris saw, to his surprise, an older half-orc man who seemed to be part of The Claret Orders, the same order that Jamedi had belonged to. According to Jamedi, those in the Orders were "monsters hunting monsters".
>
> Athlonia told Boris about what it meant to be Luxonborn, and talked a bit about how those serving the Luxon had been blessed with multiple lives.
>
> You also spoke to Will of the Feywild, who, after his closest relative was revealed to be something decidedly not human, admitted he was a creature called a toshigami, originating from the Shadowfell. He said that he had been working _for_ Skabatha Nightshade to lure children into her workshop when Endelyn Moongrave had cursed him and changed his alignment. He said he had dedicated his life to undoing what he'd done previously. He wasn't sure what would happen to him after Endelyn died. He also gave you a unicorn horn that he'd been holding.
>
> When you fitted the unicorn horn on the rocking horse, it turned into a real live unicorn named Elidon, who said that he might have some information for them, but that he'd like to return to his mate, Lamorna, who lived in The Wayward Pool. Will wanted to stay behind with the other kids, and you told him about the mirror in the pool in Bavlorna's cottage. He said he wanted to help bring the other kids back to their homes, if they still had one, and that he would bring them to where the storm balloon was, on the beaches of Thither.
>
> You headed off to The Wayward Pool, came across a toffee apple-headed goblin in an interesting predicament. He had a maggot slowly eating his way through his brain, one that would slowly kill him. However, the maggot's passing had also caused him to change his ways-- another reformed ally of Skabatha's. You couldn't really help him, and he didn't seem keen on killing the maggot, so you continued to The Wayward Pool, a pristine, misty lake with a palpable air of magic. Elidon stepped onto the surface of the lake. You all followed suit, and witnessed a reunion between him and his mate Lamorna.
>
> Lamorna and Elidon were more than happy to tell you everything they knew. You learned about the jabberwock that lived in the castle, a dangerous infant dragon-creature that Zybilna had somehow tamed. It was a shapeshifter of some sort, and had been quite a menace until Zybilna met it. Nobody knew what had happened to it-- it had disappeared along with Zybilna.
>
> The unicorns said that you'd likely need one of their horns to undo the time-stopping magic that the witches had used, and Elidon graciously offered for you to cut off a part of his horn. They said that the three hags had needed three things to freeze Zybilna: the Dragonleaf Tree that was turned into Loomlurch, a unicorn's horn, and a magical cauldron belonging to Zybilna. The unicorns allowed you to take a long rest on the rocky outcropping that they called their home, in the middle of a magically shrouded lake. ^summary

## Secrets and Clues
- [x] [[Will of the Feywild]] is not what he seems. He's actually a [toshigami](obsidian://open?vault=dnd-vault&file=monsters%2FKami%20-%20Toshigami).
- [x] Will used to be [[Skabatha Nightshade]]'s best kidnapper, but [[Endelyn Moongrave]] secretly cursed him to spite her sister, and his alignment changed to chaotic good. He's been the thorn in Skabatha's side since.
- [x] The [[Corrupted Dragonleaf Tree]] was what the hags used to switch the bodies of [[Topplepot|Diesa Torunn]] and [[Zybilna]]. When it is killed, she'll be back in her own body.
- [ ] Irae didn't just "leave" [[ttrpgs/The Slayers Five/Palebank Village]]; she was exiled because of her destructive powers.
- [x] Athlonia is a follower of [[ttrpgs/The Slayers Five/The Luxon]]. If Boris shows her the [[ttrpgs/The Slayers Five/Luxon Beacon]], she will first try to convince him to come to Xhorhas with her and go through [[Anamnesis]]. If he refuses, she will do whatever she can to take it from him.
- [ ] Uldun couldn't care less about [[ttrpgs/The Slayers Five/The Luxon]]. He's afraid of returning and facing all the responsibility of his former life.
- [ ] [[Hardrak|Othrog the Titan-Knuckled]] has been unifying orc tribes in [[The Many Hosts of Igrathad]].
- [x] The [[Corrupted Dragonleaf Tree]] is linked to a [[Arkenox]] that is [[Zybilna]]'s pet. It can also take the form of a large singing bird.
- [x] [[Lamorna]] is a unicorn in [[Wayward Pool]] who knows a bit more about the enchantment placed on [[The Palace of Heart's Desire]].
## [[Loot]]
- [x] A [spell scroll](https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/spell-scroll) of [speak with plants](https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/speak-with-plants) tucked in a side table drawer
- [x] Family portraits
> [!question]- If they find the magical portraits
> - A truly ancient and terrifying hag (Baba Yaga, the Mother of Witches)
> - A toadish hag ([Bavlorna Blightstraw](https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/bavlorna-blightstraw), as depicted in [appendix B](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/twbtw/factions/ "appendix B"))
> - A skeletal hag wearing a black, theatrical contraption resembling a dress ([Endelyn Moongrave](https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/endelyn-moongrave), as depicted in appendix B)
> - A hag with a wind-up key in her back, one empty eye socket, and a wooden eye held in her hand ([Skabatha Nightshade](https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/skabatha-nightshade), as depicted in appendix B)
> - A svelte, dark-haired woman with a commanding presence (her appearance matching that of the Tasha mannequin outside the Hall of Illusions in the Witchlight Carnival, as described in [chapter 1](https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/twbtw/witchlight-carnival#HallofIllusions "chapter 1"))
>
> The portraits are enchanted to display the last creature that pricked its skin on the brambles’ thorns in addition to its four closest family members, if it has any. These family members can be living or dead. (If the creature has fewer than four close family members, any remaining portraits are blank.) Each portrait magically animates to create the impression that the subject is looking around and shifting uncomfortably, but the animation has the quality of an old movie. The moving images are silent.
- [x] 3 letters to Skabatha (2 from [[Bavlorna Blightstraw]] and 1 from [[Endelyn Moongrave]])
## NPCs
- [x] [[Will of the Feywild]]
- [x] [[Chucklehead]] - can give them the rewards in the Wanted posters
- [ ] [[Brottor]]
- [x] [[Lamorna]]
## Locations
