## Carbuncle's garnet
A carbuncle's most prominent feature is the brilliant red gem that grows on its forehead amidst bright red feathers. The feathers fade to purple feathers down its back, and eventually to dark purple fur.
Carbuncles are jungle-dwelling cats that have a 40-foot walk speed, a 20-foot climb speed, and a 60-foot fly speed. The red garnets on their foreheads are the raw material for [[Brumestone]]s. Brumestones are carbuncle garnets that have been enchanted and re-enchanted with residuum to create a more concentrated and powerful version of the gem whose magic is concentrated on flight.

> This gem has 3 charges. When you cast a spell that deals damage or requires you to roll dice as part of the effect (such as sleep), you can expend 1 charge as part of the action to cast the spell to roll one extra die of that type and add it to the total result. Once all 3 charges are expended, this gem becomes a nonmagical garnet worth 300 gp. [^ccodex]
