In the western part of the cave, behind the column of rock, is the body of an elven man, dressed like a guard, dead for at least a day. > > The northeastern section of the cavern has collapsed, forming a ten-foot-wide, twenty-foot-deep pit. A sturdy hemp rope is tied off around a nearby stalagmite and dangles down the side of the pit, at the bottom of which is a rough-hewn tunnel heading northwest and east. - Climbing into the open pit without rope requires a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) check. A character who fails the check by 5 or more falls and takes `dice: 2d6` bludgeoning damage. - Tunnel at the bottom fo the pit leads ### Cocoons of the Empty [[The Blackweald#Map|Back to map]] > [!tldr] Description > This area consists of numerous intersecting passages. The ceilings here are only six feet high, and several of the passages end in partially excavated rock faces. > > As soon as you look up, you realise that almost every part of the ceiling is covered in mounds like a fleshy web. ### Heart of the Kingdom [[The Blackweald#Map|Back to map]] ### Pits of Bile [[The Blackweald#Map|Back to map]] > [!tldr] Description > Dense carpets of weird fungi cover large sections of the floor in this cavern. The growth includes puffballs a foot across, weird shelf fungus growing on stalagmites, and large stalks and caps a good five feet tall. Some of the puffballs glow with an eerie green phosphorescence. - _**Poison Gas.**_ Whenever a creature attempts to cross the cavern, the carpets of fungi that cover most of the floor release poisonous gas into the air. Each creature in the cavern must succeed on a DC 11 Constitution saving throw or take 3d6 poison damage and be [poisoned](https://www.dndbeyond.com/compendium/rules/basic-rules/appendix-a-conditions#Poisoned) for 10 minutes. The gas disperses after 1 minute, but until then, any living creature that ends its turn in the cavern must repeat the saving throw. ### Altar of the Hungry [[The Blackweald#Map|Back to map]] - A buffet table and dining table in the centre of the room, where rich food is piled. - [[Tuck Dabbler]] is sitting here, morose. He's been told he's going to eat, but actually, he is the food. This is where some are eaten if they aren't sent into [[The Blackweald#Pits of Bile]]. - [[Lira]] and [[Dajarkal]] are lying in wait here. ### The Hungry Guardroom [[The Blackweald#Map|Back to map]] ## Encounters | Roll | Encounter | | ----- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | 1 | [[The real Captain Three Earrings\|Fayette de la Gard]] | | 2 | A close guard of Eryn | | 3 | [Map Mimic Momma]([Map Mimic Momma](obsidian://open?vault=dnd-vault&file=monsters%2FDune%20Mimic)) and [2 Map Mimics](obsidian://open?vault=dnd-vault&file=monsters%2Fmimic%20-%20map) | | 4 | [Psychic Vampire](obsidian://open?vault=dnd-vault&file=monsters%2FPsychic%20Vampire) | | 5 | [Bloated ghoul](obsidian://open?vault=dnd-vault&file=monsters%2FBloated%20Ghoul) | | 6 | 4 Blackweald mimics | | 7 | [[Asari]] | | 8 | [[Bryn]], who was sent to Rumblecusp by the Plank King to investigate what happened to the TS5 | | 9 | [Darakhul priestess](obsidian://open?vault=dnd-vault&file=monsters%2FDarakhul%20Priestess) | | 10-15 | 5 guards pass by, dragging a victim | | 16-20 | A victim crawling out of a cocoon | ^encounters
