# The Winding Mines The Winding Mines are a cave system on the northwestern coast of [[Rumblecusp]]. For years, the [[Village of Vo]] have been mining here to get precious materials to give to Vokodo. ## Since they were last here - [ ] [[Qresk Bronzeripper]] and the kobolds are working with the Magma belcher basilisk to create tunnels and map out the caves. - [ ] Level 1 establishment since 18 Dualahei ## Establishment In [[036_20210905 Exploring Dragonleaf Keep and Downtime in Rumblecusp]], the party paid for the mines to be an establishment. The mines will take 45 days to be fully at level 1, and another month (30 days) to get to level 2. ## Maps ### Map of the entire cave system ![[dyson-caves_of_chaos.png]] [^dyson] ### The Map Mimic's Map In [[034_20210821 The Town of the Forgotten]], the party destroyed a Map Mimic that turned into this map, seemingly showing a location within the Winding Mines: ![[rumblecusp-map_mimic_map.png]] The map shows the path that the Map Mimic travelled, and the X marks its mother's position. They were initially dragonborns that attempted to flee the mists of forgetting by building a civilization underground. Eventually the Mimics moved in, brought in by one of them, and sealed their entrance off. The civilization continued. Some of the original Children were kobolds, also taking refuge from the Mist and Mother Krangor's ways. Over time, the dragonborns and humans began to mate. Kobolds' high reproduction rate and short life cycles enabled the Children to evolve quickly. Some genetic adaptations that the Children have acquired are: - They are born blind. They do not know what seeing is. - They have a heightened sense of hearing, and have learned how to use echolocation. - Their stature is small and efficient. - Their sleep cycles (if they live long enough to sleep) are far longer, more like hibernation. - Perpetual lack of sunlight has given most of them skin conditions. Cultural implications: - Light is the most sacred of all things: not because they need it to find their way around, but because they need it to grow food. The caves are moist and humid, so it's hard to keep light going. Light-bearers have higher stature in society. - They have the Dawn Ritual, which involves them killing themselves to conserve the tribe's resources and allow their children to continue. - Children are the leaders of the tribe. They mature quickly (within hours).
