# [[020_20220924 The Blood Siphon]] %% art:: [[golarion-dessicated-flesh-worm.png]] %% ## Session Summary > [!tldr] [[020_20220924 The Blood Siphon]] > We learned that the metal construct's name was Oriana, and that she needed help finding her lower half. She could not speak out loud, but she could speak in our minds when she touched us. > > We gave Tangletop the spyglass, and he told us that the workshop belonged to one Voluk Azrinae, who was an eccentric and drow lensmaker who later became the apprentice of Belcorra (who was even meaner than he was). Tangletop then teleported out via some sort of portal he cast, but the spyglass couldn't come with him and we kept it! > > We explored the other two rooms on this island. One was a groundskeeper's closet, and the other was a staircase leading down to a lower floor. That led to one room that had many alcoves. In one of the alcoves, we found Oriana's legs! We put her together and she told us her story. She offered to give us a favour, but we just asked her to tell us information about *The Whispering Tyrant* if she knew anything, and we let her go and live her life. > > We explored the other room, and found some sort of medical examination or surgery room with a Blood Siphon that reared up and attacked us! ^summary --- ## Recap ![[019_20220917 The abandoned doll guards the shiny#^summary]] --- ## Log The humanoid creature was feminine! This was a workshop for someone who made lenses. The construct has some magical runes on it, but we can't figure it out. It doesn't seem to respond to us talking to it. [[Carman Rajani]] is a bad blacksmith... we can't take the construct to him. I try to write to it: *How can we help you?* It reaches out to me and I hear thoughts in my head. *I am missing a part of me. Please help me become complete. I mean you no harm. Please don't hurt me.* Its metal is special too. We're not sure what it is. I tell it that we're going to try to help it find its missing part and that we won't hurt it. It responds: *I hope you're telling the truth. Many have fooled me before.* We go back to Tangletop and give him the spyglass. He's super happy. He tells us: - This place belonged to someone named [[Volluk Azrinae]]. - I have heard of him! He is probably the Voluk that I've read that is a reknowned drow lensmaker in the past. He didn't publish work - he was an obssessive inventor. The world despises drow elves because they're known to be evil. Voluk distinguished himself as an expert crafter. He had many masters and followed many pursuits in relation to lens-making. Just from how long it's been since he had been active, he's probably dead by now. - Voluk was an apprentice to someone named [[Belcorra]]. Voluk seemed mean, but Belcorra was even worse! - This spooky magic lighthouse can do more than shine at night. It can shoot a beam of ghosts. Tangletop disappears into a portal he creates, but for some reason he can't bring the spyglass with him and he disappears without the spyglass! We spend the hour treating wounds. 10:30 am. We look at the two other smaller rooms. - First (eastern): [[The Gauntlight#Groundskeeper's Closet]] - 20x20 square room filled with shelves, planks. - Seems like it was for maintaining the grounds. Gardener or Groundskeeper's tools. - Second: [[The Gauntlight#Staircase on island]] - Spiral staircase leading down - Moss and fungus coats the staircase. - Less than 5' in diameter. - Nobody has gone here in a long time. I put light on [[Hurricane]] and ask her to go down. It seems safe! We head down as well. We come to a T-intersection. It's very quiet here. Seems to be have the same architectural design as the first floor where we saw Tangletop. - East door: [[The Gauntlight#Alchemical workshop]] - West door - Stairs back up The East door is locked with a lock that is unpickable by Skram. Karsh breaks the door instead. It's another workshop. - 7 square alcoves in this room.: 2 on the left, 2 on the right, 2 on the bottom, 1 on the top - 30x30 room - Each alcove contains alchemical sets of tools or magical apparatuses. - Stone chamber, damp. - North: glass tank with liquid. Goblin's corpse with outdated servant's clothing floats inside it. - tools, large open book, moldy papers stands in front of the tank. Alcoves - Top left - Tools and apparatuses that are outdated. - Bottom left - More alchemical and magical things - Jumble of metal that have runes! They unfold into two humanoid legs. Bond and Skram try to put the construct together, but Karsh is the one that figure it out with a natural 20! Karsh gives the construct his repair kit. The construct stands even taller than Karsh. He tells us in our minds: *It's been a long time since I have been whole. My travels have always resulted in bipedal humanoids attempting to take advantage of me, to use me, or to find out how I work, to use me for their own selfish interests. I am from a time and a nation that is gone. We are all that remains of my kingdom. We scattered and fled when our kingdom fell, the last remnants of our people. In my travels, I was captured by this one called Voluk and he tried to disassemble me, much like many others. He tried to find out what makes me work, why I'm alive, why I'm talking. How to make me work for him. And he was able to, in a fashion, with a device that he placed on my head. He hasn't been here for many cycles and I've been inert for all that time. Thank you for giving me my freedom back. My designation is [[Oriana]].* - Voluk made the soul gem that Bond got from the [[Soulbound Doll]]. - She no longer remembers where she's from. She's concerned for her safety because many people have tried to open her up. She waves her hands and a hum starts inside her. We feel loose things around us float. Anti-gravity servos. She can help protect us, she can find people. She can remotely sense things. She can create intense sounds that can give organic beings headaches. She can move through space for a certain distance and time. She can communicate via thoughts. I ask her to send us information about *The Whispering Tyrant*. Right - 1 - Armless, legless goblin that looks like the Soulbound Doll. - 2 - Nothing of importance Southern alcoves - Nothing important West door: Hallway - Door to north and south, plus the door to the east that we came from. - Clean, unused, spartan - South door - Large metal table in the center with leather straps and iron bands. - Strange contraption: part mechanical drill and part spyglass. - Sparkling black gemstone in a metal framework is in the side of the machine. - Giant, brown, log-like thing beside the table on the far side (away from us). 2ft diameter, 5 feet wide. Like dessicated flesh As we approach, the log rears up. It has a mouth on one side and a concentric row of fangs.
