They learned from Gloam that Calamity's Ruin had been defeated by Volluk Azrinae and his ice sculpture minion, with Dread and Gears captured while Bee escaped. After a long rest, the party returned to Gauntlight to confront Volluk, engaging in a fierce battle against Volluk, the Merged ogre, and ice sculptures. Despite Volluk's powerful magic and minions, the party managed to defeat his creatures and escape with their captured allies. ^summary %% ## Video [Video]() %% --- ## Recap ![[048_20230909 The Duskwalker Awakening#^summary]] --- ## Log 50 gp each in monster parts: *athletics, perception, light armor, bludgeoning* A lot of them are injured with a weapon that left three triangular thrusts that don't meet. Others have blunt-force trauma. The new [[Karsh]] doesn't remember anything before now! He doesn't know who he is, what he is, what he can do, or where he came from. [[Odasa|Gloam]] seems disappointed that Karsh can't tell him more about the situation - it's like Gloam was hoping to find out more about where Gloam himself came from, too. The new Karsh is very tall (about 6 feet) but in his teens. He doesn't have fangs. He doesn't have the tribal tattoos that he once had. He has taken most of the old Karsh's things. Gloam said they ([[Calamity's Ruin]]) were scouting the lower levels. There was nothing there except a ghost in the trash chute, which they handled. They entered the last room and found [[Volluk Azrinae]]. He said something like "You're not the ones I'm waiting for, but you'll do". Gloam said Volluk was being helped by some sort of ice sculpture thing, and together they incapacitated [[Gears|Gears]]. [[Dread]] and [[Shawanti|Bee]] fought on, but were overwhelmed. The ice was reddish and pinkish and in the shape of a woman. It was impervious to most of their attacks. Just before the TPK, Dread told Bee and Gloam and find help. They ran away, but Gloam doesn't know where Bee went. Bee just found the horde of zombies coming out of a dining room that they already cleared. Dread saw [[Korlock]], talked to him, and then left with a promise to give him the contract. But then Dread came back with a person from [[The Hellknights]], an order of [[Cheliax]]. They are cruel and efficient (not necessarily good or evil). Dread wanted the person to witness him fighting and defeating Korlock in single combat. Apparently, the Hellknights uphold order. Volluk is resistant to physical attacks. We decide to go looking for Bee. She seems undamaged. She's happy to see Gloam. She hid while the zombies passed by. Volluk put a darkness around Calamity's Ruin and not all of them could see in the dark. Long rest. [[Jaspen Bond Callistair|Bond]] looks for his kobold friends, Gran and Andy, but they're busy and "fighting", apparently. We go back to the Gauntlight and go for Volluk! There's a light curtain that has spirit magic, preventing living things from going further. Statue is holding Dread down. Volluk says the [[Merged]] is "on loan" to him and asks it to prove its usefulness. ![[1694861887101 - Combat]] The party engaged in a complex battle against Volluk Azrinae, the Merged ogre, ice sculptures, and shadows. Despite Volluk's powerful magic including paralysis, fear effects, and darkness spells, the party managed to defeat his minions and force him to retreat using dimension door.
