No more using it to escape death. We've gotten one day closer to [[Absalom]], even though we've spent two days travelling. ### Day 3 Navigation: 27, (Grumblebum) Weather: 24 (Ash) - Bright, sunny day - [[Zuhri|Zuhri]]: Foraging. 6. - [[Ashnefrotty|Ash]]: Scout. 29. - [[Vayle|Vayle]]: *Hide in plain sight.* - [[Jaspen Bond Callistair|Bond]]: Foraging. We're still in civilisation, though the houses are getting farther and farther apart. One house stands out for Ash because it has a metal door with an obvious lock. There are still animals here, but they're mostly domesticated, like chickens. The door is unlocked! Grumble tries it and it creaks open. There seems to be another room inside. He calls out but there's no answer. Whoever lived here didn't leave in a hurry - it looks like there was a family here with kids. There's a smell of a furred animal in here. Grumble notices a trap door made of metal, hidden under the bed. It's designed to be locked from the inside. There's the scent of fur here. Smells of wolves. Within the trap door, there are manacles for five people. It's empty, though. The door to the house was forcefully pushed out from the outside. We go to the village and see what the others think of that house. A woman believes we should just leave them alone to their privacy. - She says that two nights ago, there were two pigs that were slaughtered and dragged off-- they belonged to some other neighbour. - No people have ever been killed. - The wolves only seem to kill animals, but not all the time. There's sometimes a week where the wolves don't bother them. - There are no clerics nearby. They'd like that as well. - Her name is [[Ama Longsaddle]]. She's one of the oldest in this area. ^af44e1 - She's the mother of [[Captain Lardus Longsaddle]] but he doesn't talk about work. He comes to visit but is just there for the family. - The guy's name is [[Orville]] (the one whose pigs were slaughtered). Vayle and Bond talk to another villager. He looks posh for a farmer. He is using a pipe and is wearing good clothing (as judged by Vayle). - When asked how he deals with wolves, he says he shoots them with a sling. - Bond says he's a guard from another place ([[Alkenstar]]). - He says the house with metal doors and windows is creepy. - He thinks the wolves are a price they have to pay for living out here, and anyway it's not a daily occurrence. It's probably just once every full moon. The last one was two weeks ago. We go to talk to Orville. - He's in the middle of an argument with a woman who is scolding him about being too lazy and waking up too late. - The woman is middle-aged, dusty, dirty. She says the wolves ate their last two pigs. She complains that Orville keeps forgetting to feed the chickens. - Orville is a fat guy with hair up to his eyes, almost obscuring them. Really big guy. Takes us to pigsty. - He heard something bothering the pigs on a night of a full moon. He had given the pigs names... she wanted to sell them up and take them to Otari, but he wanted to keep the pigs. He saw something jump into the pen and he heard a pitiful noise like they knew they were going to die. He saw something big and black - more than one of them, but it was dark. It would be the weirdest looking wolves if they were wolves. They got one each, jumped off, and ran away. - The pigs were breeders - they were huge. - Their names were [[Sandy]] (female, he was hoping she'd give birth) and [[Onyx]]. We are able to track the pigs. Darkness falls. - Grumble: Fortify. 24? Choose whether enemy starts flat-footed or slowed if we have an encounter. - Ash: Organize watch. 22. +1 status bonus to Perception checks made during his watch. - Zuhri: Tries to use *Occultism* to recall knowledge about werewolves, but doesn't really learn much more other than that werewolves lose their minds. - As I look at the crescent moon, I have a strange feeling coursing through my body. I tihnk I've felt it since this morning. Strangely, I feel stronger. There's something in the night or in the air that makes me feel like my spells are stronger. Never felt that before. I experiment and I realise that my range is doubled for all my spells. My connection with him doesn't seem to have changed. *Shield* doesn't seem to have changed. I've been feeling this the entire day... just had no reason to use my spells. We sleep, though it's not a long rest because we're not at a safe haven. ### Day 4 It's cold and dry. Tracking - Zuhri: 22 - Ash: 16 - Grumble: 20 - Vayle: doesn't help. - Bond: Grasslands have turned mushy - there's a source of water nearby and the ground is a bit spongy. There's probably a swamp or river nearby. The trail leads into a muddy grassland. - Ahead, we see more trees. - To our right is another forest - the forest we expected to see going towards Absalom. - To our left is the [[Water Wheel]] and the flue at [[Otari]]. We try to identify the swamp. Vayle realises that the bubbles in the swamp are poisonous. There's something in the swamp that is rotted and is releasing gas. Grumble suggests we use a ration to create a cloth mask with water to act as a filter for the poisonous fumes. +2 circumstance bonus for the check. 33 Ash, 18 Zuhri. Zuhri takes 26 damage. Ash finds a rare combination of medicinal plants that make a Greater Healing Potion. It grows in this swamp. We find the remainder of a pig leg that's been bitten, lacerated, and separated from the body. The tracks of the wolves change into humans. There are two massive pig remains. - Grumble: Fortify, 20. He's set tracks around the camp. - Ash: Organize watch. 19. +1 to Perception during the watch. - Vayle: Entertain. Talks about being left behind by everyone. - Bond left his family in Alkenstar. - Zuhri is sad because she used to have an ambush that she left behind. - Ash used to be a master of a guild that had been formed to protect the helpless. Now his students are probably gone now too - he might have outlived them. He thinks he and Vayle might be back for a reason. Ash doesn't know exactly why he's back. He thinks Zuhri might be one of them. - Intimidating posture: Bond, 27. - Zuhri: Treats Wounds. ### Day 4 Weather remains cold and dry. For some reason I feel like I've lost a power and Vayle has it now... Tracking! There are two men that we spot. They have packs on them. They have weapons. They're roasting squirrels. Ash approaches them noisily. [[Seba]] and [[Mezru]]. Seba seemed to be more suspicious. Mezru was quicker to trust. - They say the family is [[The Gallowhops]]. They're weird and strange, but they don't do anything bad. - They know about the curse. They admit it eventually. They are cursed. Same as The Gallowhops. Same as most people in that community. - It seemed like a little thing, like a dog, but then it infected many of them. - They took the two pigs - they just woke up with them and knew what they'd done. They were full when they woke up. - Transforming and being called by the moon is a pain. Shouting comes out as a howl through fanged teeth. You forget anything that has happened. - There's a lot of them out here. It's been going on for a few months. There are maybe 30? 100? No idea. - Mezru wields bows, Seba wields a spear. Seba has an accent.
