It's where he nursed her back to health. The tower was in the middle of a clearing and there were two hexagon-like obelisks. Vayle found out that the shrine was dedicated to [[Grotus]], the watcher of the gate. Zuhri climbed up to the hole in the middle of the inside of the tower but didn't see anything there. We took a rest there and saw a strange doll by our fire that wasn't there before. We couldn't figure out what to do with it. > > We left the tower and encountered a group of four rugged people: three men and a woman. Two of them were injured. Vayle convinced them that we were friendly. Grumble told us later that they were werewolf hunters (he'd seen silver arrowheads) and suggested we not let them join our party. They gave us some rations and left. ^summary %% ## Video [Video]() %% --- ## Recap ![[ttrpgs/The Undead Unkillers/060_20240127 Bulette Rodeo#^summary]] --- ## Log Recap - We discovered [[The Gallowhops]], a town of werewolves who have been able to live with their curse. - We met a benevolent undead knight called [[Malleus]]. - Attacked by a Bulette. - Found a mysterious book that is a manual to teach someone *The Way of the Spellshot*, a class archetype. Bond has a brand-new gun called *Bulabomination*. It's Level 4. It has *Striking*. Vayle made an intricate ring from the carapace of the Bulette. ![[uu-vayle-portrait.png]] ![[uu-bond.png]] ![[uu-malleus-2.png]] ![[uu-malleus-3.png]] Today, I feel empowered. For today, my spells have the *Widened Spell* metamagic where the range is doubled-- but only my spells. No other actions or any of Ash's stuff. To our east, the wildfire is still raging. Two options: through it or around it. The apparent weather is snowy rain. After half a day of travelling through this weather, we will get fatigued. We decide to go through the fire anyway. - [[Grumblebum|Grumble]] finds a path - [[Vayle]] tries to pray to their deity but it doesn't work. - Bond helps Grumble look. - Zuhri protects everyone from falling logs and clears the path. We see that the wildfire has spread to the north, but we've found a path through the fire. We're in a tangled forest. Not as much smoke anymore. We're fatigued. [[Zuhri|I]] climb a tree and see a tower in the distance. But it seems familiar. It's made of dark stone. [[Ashnefrotty|Ash]] says "This is where we met." Ash remembers it more than me. He remembers having been there. His first memory was the inside of that tower and I came to him. He thinks he spent several hours or days there. I had been running away from tormentors and this tower was a safe haven for me. It used to be part of a bigger structure but everything else has crumbled around it. There are hexagons nearby that are Bond-sixed. They're made of some sort of metal. [[Tower of the Watcher]] ![[Pasted image 20240224114724.png]] We're investigating the metal hexagons. There's some sort of religious or holy scripture written on them. Vayle finds out that this a shrine to The Watcher of the Gate, [[Grotus]]. They erected this shrine to connect to and see their god at certain times of the year or of the day. It's always at night. The god of end times. Usually Grotus looks out onto the boneyard, but that can't be here... can it? We go into the tower. There are different levels, but no obvious way to get from one level to another. There are architectural designs and nonsense writings praising their gods. It's mostly decorative. There's a small hole at the top though, but there's no rain going through. The hole is 6 inches in diameter and we can see part of the sky. It's a deliberate hole, not the result of wear and tear. [[Jaspen Bond Callistair|Bond]] sees that there's a magical chant interspersed with the writing. It's a spell to see the Watcher of the Gate. We take a nap and lose our *fatigued* condition. It's nighttime and we realise parts of the tower are lit up. Some writings and drawings are glowing. The pattern of the glow seem random. By the range of our campfire is a doll. Made of tweed and soil and dark roots. Unnaturally large. One eye is a sewn X and the other has been gouged out. The mouth is smiling but the teeth are sharp. No elbows, no knees, unnaturally long toes. It's about half a foot tall. Grumble picks up the doll and puts it in the fire. There's a viscuous black goo that comes out from it like dark mud. It sizzles. It eventually burns. We couldn't figure out where it had come from. We keep watch throughout the night but nothing happens. No one's empowered today. It's stopped raining. It's windy and a bit snowy. No longer wet, but it'll be a little wet soon. Bond takes the doll along. Day 7 (?) - [[Grumblebum|Grumble]] rolls a critical success on the way to [[Absalom]]. (navigation) - Zuhri: Foraging. Nat 20. Gain 2 rations. - [[Ashnefrotty|Ash]]: Scouting. Fails. A few minutes after we leave the tower behind, a group of four rugged people seem to have followed Ash back to us. They look like they've been in the wilderness for a long time. They have normal hunting weapons. Two of them are walking with a limp. They are hooded but seem like humans. [[Vayle]] asks if they need help. They say they're looking for shelter or help. A man and a woman among them have been hurt. They have claw marks on them. Vayle and Ash and Zuhri stabilize and stop the bleeding on the two of them. Grumble sees that the tips of their weapons and arrows are silvered. They're [[Werewolf Hunters]]. They're brothers [[Albaret Brask]] and [[Kran Brask]]. Kran is injured. Mateo is the other one that's helping the lady. The lady has a staff. They've been in the wilderness for some time. They have underestimated the strength of their prey. They had planned traps and an ambush but they were ambushed themselves. They'd been fleeing for three days when they saw Ash.
