## Session Summary
> [!tldr] [[090_20250713 Mutalisks eaten by gibtas bounders eaten by hydras]]
> The party continues exploring a blood-soaked level of the dungeon. Grumble kicks down a door to reveal a room filled with signs of a massacre, while the group investigates further into adjacent chambers. They find evidence of a brutal underwater conflict involving mutated crab-like creatures (dubbed "mutalisks") and something unseen—possibly amphibious predators with acidic spit, webbed feet, and strong jaws. Bond uses _Prestidigitation_ to try to distract or manipulate the creatures, while Vayle deduces that two water-dwelling predators likely slaughtered the mutalisks. Nearby, they discover a throne room with rusted levers, pits leading to underwater passageways, and ominously empty alcoves. It was a sentencing room.
>
> Meanwhile, Bond uncovers disturbing notes in a southern chamber revealing that 70% of local experiment subjects were dwarves. These subjects were dissected and sent to two different figures: Volluk Azrinae, who harvested souls for undead soldiers, and Jafaki, who repurposed the bodies into fleshwarps. In the watery depths below, the party hears signs of a battle between gibtas bounders (level 5 frog-like creatures) and massive hydras—one possibly boasting ten heads, suggesting multiple hydras may be present. Cautiously avoiding that fight, the group decides to wrap up their exploration of this level before descending to Level 6. ^summary

## Log
We'll call the crab things "mutalisks" for now.
Grumble kicks down the door and comes to a room full of blood. Looks like there was a lot of killing in this room.
I check another room to the north where we'd previously heard noises of the crabs dying there. There is a wet slurping sound on the floor, and I smell the smell of the ocean from there. I sometimes hear sounds from something like a dog... then that same slurping sound again.
Bond uses *Prestidigitation* to try to encourage the mutalisks to turn to it, back towards him.
I open the door to the north.
- Dais on the west end with a stone throne and rusty levers
- Two pits hanging by one side. Most of the cover of the pit (used to be a trap door) is now dangling onto the ground. Underneath is moving water, probably connected to the other room.
- There are 4 mutalisk corpses near the door. They seemed to have been trying to get out.
- Whatever they're fighting is suspiciously missing.
- Vayle thinks there were two such creatures that lived in the water, killed the mutalisks, and dove into the water. They have some sort of acidic spit, webbed feet, and jaws.
- Three alcoves, each with a pit.
Bond goes to the south room to join Grumble and finds notes about the experiments done there. He learns that there were experiments done on many animals, underground and aboveground. 70% of them were dwarves. 30% of them barely past the experimenter's standards. Most of them were sent to a drow ([[Volluk Azrinae]]). Volluk prefers dwarves because they're easy to turn into soldiers. Volluk only wanted the soul so he was sent the head and part of the torso, and [[Jafaki]] was sent the other parts (to turn into flesh warps).
There are hydras in the water fighting frogs called gibtas bounders. There are at least ten heads there. Gibtas bounders are level 5 and would be easy for us. The hydras are level 6 but we've never heard of a ten-headed hydra, so there's probably more than one of them there.

Bond investigates the throne. The levers are mechanical.
We decide we'll leave the hydras, finish exploring the remaining unexplored rooms on this level, and then head down to Level 6.
Homework: Think about requirements for your character before they level up. What must they accomplish, story-wise? Something easy and something hard.
