His glowing staff reveals undead are near, and he explains they came to assess the dungeon’s threat to Otari. He calls Gloam their “wayward child” for neglecting the church, and though Vayle invites them to join, they refuse. Before parting, Vayle warns them to flee if they encounter Siora Fallowglade—an apprentice silently thanks the group for the caution. The clerics then descend to Level 5, leaving the party to press onward. > > The group returns to a previously blocked room where a jammed door has been wedged shut. After multiple attempts—using axes, rings, and rams—Vayle’s Kinetic Ram finally breaks it open. Inside, the air is ancient and stale, with a rune drawn in dried blood on the floor and a robed figure wrapped in strips of paper like a mummy. Though initially unintelligible, he introduces himself in Nekril as Chafkem, the administrator of this level. He explains bitterly that he has been trapped there for centuries, forced into his strange state, and blames his imprisonment on a Sugathi named Jafaki. Chafkem conveys both relief at being freed and frustration at his rescuers’ lack of understanding. ^summary %% ## Video [Video]() %% --- ## Recap ![[094_20250824 Red Mantis Code#^summary]] --- ## Log We are in Level 4. We spend some time healing up and refocusing. A high cleric of [[Pharasma]] (higher than [[Odasa|Gloam]]) comes up to us with two apprentices. They're all talking. The high cleric says that his staff is glowing, so that means that undead is nearby. They're there to see the threat that the dungeon poses to [[Otari]]. His name is [[Aiden Court]]. He calls Gloam their "wayward child" because Gloam hasn't come to church in a while. [[Vayle]] actually asks them to join us because the level below is dangerous, but they say no. Vayle cautions them to run away if they see someone that looks like [[Siora Fallowglade]]. One of the apprentices mouths "thank you" for the warning, and then they go down to Level 5. ![[uu-teleporter-room.png]] We go to the room we haven't gotten past before, where there is a door that is jammed - the hinges are already off. It looks like the door has been purposely jammed shut behind a sofa. There's a voice behind it that has a thought (according to [[Zuhri]]'s thoughtsense). [[Grumble]] hits it with his axe and [[Bond]] uses his Ring of Ram to do further damage. It's still stuck, though. The voice picks up in tone because it's excited. [[Ash]] and Zuhri and Grumble hit it some more, but it's Vayle's Kinetic Ram that finally pushes it open. The door falls inwards. The air is stale like nobody has been there for hundreds of years. There's a fire in the east wall. ![[uu-rune-room.png]] There's a rune that looks like it was drawn with now-dried blood on the floor. There's a humanoid in robes standing there with a wooden stick he's leaning on. He's covered with strips of paper like some sort of mummy. We can't even see his face. He raises his hands as we approach as if in surrender. He starts talking to us in Aklo (Undercommon) but none of us can understand him. He has a cloak on. He seems both thankful and is showing he doesn't mean any harm. He stands with an air of authority. Then he starts speaking in Nekril, and Vayle understands that. He says his name is [[Chafkem]] and he is the administrator of this level. He's complaining out loud that his saviours are idiots who can't understand anything. Chafkem said he's been stuck there for centuries because someone locked him in. He's been forced to do "this"-- gesturing to all the papers around him. The bits of skin he has peeking through parchment papers is not healthy. He thinks the person that trapped him was that [[Sugathi]], that worm that [[Jafaki]] is. %% # Excalidraw Data ## Text Elements ## Drawing ```json {"type":"excalidraw","version":2,"source":"https://github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/releases/tag/2.0.25","elements":[],"appState":{"theme":"dark","gridSize":null,"viewBackgroundColor":"#ffffff"}} ``` %%
