## Session Summary
> [!tldr] [[120_20260614 Kindred and Cursed]]
> With Volluk warded behind a floor riddled with soul-gem holes and the graveknight Sythra still barring the way, the party leans on Vayle's research: a graveknight isn't beaten by force but undone by breaking its oath — they just need the right words in the right order. Vayle also quietly carries a bombshell, that Sythra's five children are also theirs, while Grumble stocks up on acid mutagens (and notes water bombs) ahead of the Gauntlight run.
>
> Chasing Sythra's history, Vayle asks Brelda Venkervale, who remembers the name and points them to Maret — a reclusive washerwoman on the edge of town who turns out to be a ghast. Maret became undead gradually and against her will, survives on berries and small game, and keeps her distance to protect others from her hunger. Descended from Sythra's line, she gives Vayle a hair spike whose design is unique to Sythra's hometown. Moved by the kinship, Vayle offers her the rebirth potion; Maret accepts, and the party spends the night guarding her hut through the eight hours she lies vulnerable. ^summary

## Log
Recap
- [[Volluk Azrinae|Volluk]] has hundreds of small holes in the floor - how are we going to kill him? But before him is [[Graveknight Armor|Sythra]].
- [[Vayle]] researched Grave Knights. Once the oath is broken, she ceases to exist. We just need to get the right words in the right order to make her break her oath.
- Apparently Sythra's five children are also Vayle's! Vayle hasn't told anyone yet though.
[[Grumblebum|Grumble]] finds an acid mutagen. 12g each and she has three of them. He buys them.
- water bomb: deals minimal nonlethal bludgeoning and splash damage, but a creature can attempt a flat check to save from it.
Vayle asks [[Brelda Venkervale]], who is old enough to have been alive when Vayle and Sythra were alive. She does remember the name Sythra. There is a washer woman, [[Maret]], who speaks very little and lives by herself on the edge of town. The kids seem to call her weird names. We go to visit her. She has a long-sleeved dress with a high collar. She has headgear that covers her head. Her hands are wrinkled with age (and washing). She's not a human. She's a ghast. She tells Vayle to stay away for her sake. She's undead. She doesn't want any trouble.
- She uses perfume from ingredients gathered from the hills so that she doesn't leave her smell on the clothes she washes.
- She only eats berries, rabbits, things she can catch.
- She tries to be useful to the town.
- She gives Vayle a hair spike/hair pin from Maret. It was something from Sythra's hometown or city, with a design unique to that place.
- Vayle reveals that they often feel ugly, and Maret feels the same way. She doesn't know what happened to her.
- She didn't become a ghast through the usual means, since she has an aversion to eating her own kind. It happened to her gradually, and it wasn't her doing. She didn't mention any god.
- She does have urges to eat anyone, and that's why she's stayed away from everyone. She's strong-willed.
I give Vayle the [[Rebirth potion|rebirth potion]], and she offers it to Maret. Maret takes it. We spend the night in her hut while she's vulnerable for 8 hours.
