# [[General Urevian]]
![[General Urevian.svg]]
[[General Urevian]] is the commanding officer of the [[Vordine]] devil resistance forces. The soldiers [[Inqator]] and [[Zemna]] are under his command and are seeking to fulfill a contract made by General Urevian in their fight against [[Jafaki]]'s forces in the Gauntlight.
## Role in the Resistance
General Urevian has established a contract that his Vordine soldiers are working to fulfill. The resistance has been planning for hundreds of years, and if they succeed in securing their foothold in the Gauntlight, more Vordine forces will be sent to reinforce their position.
## Relationship with the Party
The party's presence was reported to General Urevian through the [[Zibub]] messenger [[Scree]]. The Vordine soldiers indicated they would inform their superiors (including General Urevian) about the party's activities and potential alliance against [[Belcorra]].
## Strategic Position
The Vordine forces under General Urevian's command are currently engaged in a war against [[Jafaki]]'s forces on their floor of the Gauntlight. They have successfully weakened an [[Irnakurse]] creature and are planning further incursions to expand their control.
## Session 112 — Staging hall and Absalom thrust
During [[112_20260404 The Pentagram Shards]], a Level 5 [[Vordine]] drill instructor in a smoke-scented chamber under [[The Gauntlight]] (rubble-choked stairs downward, four guarded double doors, northern energy wall, western pentagram door) acknowledged the party as potential allies after [[Jaspen Bond Callistair|Bond]] and [[Vayle]] succeeded at Diplomacy checks against General Urevian. That devil gave Vayle **one of five** irregular magical metal shards shaped to serve as a key to the pentagram door.
Urevian's forces have **domesticated captured [[Fleshwarp|Fleshwarps]]** for war and planned to march them upstairs to invade [[Absalom]] and strike [[Jafaki]]. An **orange barrier** Urevian created blocks [[Aulr]] (Belcorra's demon liaison) from returning deeper below, straining relations. Supporting staff named by the imp [[Szek]] include quartermaster [[Azvalvigander]], smith [[Barcumbuk]], skeleton guard [[Yagyan]], [[Gateforgers]] farther north, and an amphibious [[Zarglagon]] sent upstairs—each may hold additional shards. The Level 5 drill instructor who handed Vayle her shard was only ever described, not named — that turned out to be [[Echbos]] (identified in Session 127).
## New Threat, Old Ally (Session 127)
During [[127_20260830 Good Graces]], [[Ashnefrotty|Ash]], [[Zuhri]], and [[Jaspen Bond Callistair|Bond]] scouted a nearby fight and saw [[Echbos]] and his [[Dreshkans]] under attack from a new black-powder quadruped construct. Echbos invoked Urevian's name directly, urging the party to help if they wanted to stay in General Urevian's good graces — a chance to deepen the alliance first brokered in Session 112.
## Good Graces Spent (Session 128)
The party did not take the offer. When [[Calamity's Ruin]] entered the fight and Echbos demanded help against [[Dread]] and [[Shawanti|Bee]], the party sided with Calamity's Ruin instead: Zuhri pulled Bee to safety, Ash killed a Dreshkan, and [[Vayle]] grabbed Echbos outright. Echbos, outraged, ordered **a winged invisible spy** to report it — meaning Urevian will likely hear about the betrayal in detail, from a source the party never knew was watching.
Open question: does Urevian treat this as a broken alliance, or does he care more about who built the [[Quadruped Construct]] tearing through his forces?
## The Messenger Named (Session 129)
The winged invisible spy is **[[Scree]]**, the Zibub messenger the party has known since Session 099 and which has been reporting to Urevian for far longer. Echbos called it by name to carry word of the betrayal, and the party *felt* it move. Whatever reaches Urevian, it reaches him through a source the party had already met and never suspected.
Echbos himself spent the session fleeing south with [[Dread]] in pursuit, so Urevian may soon be short a drill instructor as well as an ally. Dread's parting line to Echbos, *"the others have been dealt with,"* suggests [[Calamity's Ruin]] has already worked through part of Urevian's command.
## He Holds a Graveknight's Soul (Session 131)
The biggest revelation about Urevian so far came out of Echbos' mouth while he was trying to save his own life. Cornered, Echbos invoked a **contract** on [[Graveknight Armor|Sythra]], addressing her as *Commander Sythra* and citing a specific section of it from memory, with payment to be discussed later. When she had no knowledge of that section, he concluded she was not the Sythra the contract was written for and said so: **"You're not Sythra, then. Urevian still has your soul. Stand aside."**
What this means for Urevian:
- There is a **standing Vordine contract** with Sythra as a named Commander, structured in sections and amendments, and Urevian's officers know its terms well enough to invoke it mid-combat
- **Urevian holds the original Sythra's soul**, stated as settled fact by one of his own officers
- The creature currently wearing the armor swore a **different oath** than the original, which is why the invocation found nothing to grab onto
- Whatever leverage the Vordine have over the graveknights on this level runs through Urevian personally
Echbos also made the consequences of Session 128's betrayal explicit before he vanished: Urevian will know, and the party will not find it so easy to move around this level any more.
Open question: having burned the alliance, does the party now have a *reason* to go back to Urevian anyway? [[Vayle]] in particular has a stake in a soul he is holding.
