The goddess [[Vayle]] worships — patron of those who fight against oppression — and the original source of Vayle's divine powers. She is the one who brought Vayle back from death.

## Vayle's Relationship with Melani
Melani's hand on Vayle's life is the central thread of this note.
- **Daily devotion (pre-Session 088)**: Vayle prayed to Melani during morning activities; one other person could receive guidance from Melani on Vayle's behalf
- **Empowerment**: Vayle was empowered upon waking on the day of the full moon (Session 067)
- **Magical shift (Session 088)**: After Vayle embraced [[The Apometi]]'s power, divine spellcasting ended and Vayle's magic became exclusively primal — the active conduit of Melani's power went silent
- **Relationship intact**: Despite the shift, the patron–follower relationship is *not* severed
## The "Revolution" — Session 100
The Dawnflower Library debate may have been the *revolution* Melani wanted Vayle to do.
- **The debate**: At the [[Dawnflower Library]], Vayle successfully defended their right to exist as undead
- **First step toward acceptance**: Despite opposition from the [[Pharasma|Pharasmins]] (who walked out and may return), the debate marked the first step toward broader acceptance of undead like Vayle
- **The implication**: This is plausibly what Melani had been preparing Vayle for — a public defence rather than a private one
## NOT the Source of the Doomed Mark — Session 116
A misread that took 3 sessions to correct.
- **Session 113**: Vayle gained *Doomed* 1 after breaking [[Siora Fallowglade|Siora]]'s Red Mantis contract; [[Vandy Banderdash]] diagnosed it as a Divine Bane and assumed Melani was reacting
- **Session 116**: Vayle pieces together that the mark is actually from [[Achaekek]] (lord of contracts), *not* Melani — Siora is a Divine Assassin and could feel the mark of *her* god on Vayle
- **Implication**: Melani is not punishing Vayle for breaking Siora's contract; Achaekek is
