# [[Metallic Crabs]] ![[Metallic Crabs.svg]] ## Description These strange creatures are aberrant [[Fleshwarp]]s with metallic carapaces that appear to be unique to [[The Gauntlight]]. They don't seem to have eyes but are aware of their surroundings through tremorsense up to 90 feet. They exist in hives and exhibit hive-like behavior. ## Abilities - **Tremorsense**: Can detect vibrations up to 90 feet - **Metallic Carapace**: Their shells are made of actual metal - **Hive Instincts**: They work together and can merge with other crabs - **Electrical Properties**: Some crabs can emit sparks and transfer this ability to others ## Behavior The metallic crabs were first encountered in [[The Gauntlight]] where they were chittering around. When threatened, they retreat rather than fight. They appear to be able to merge with other crab-like creatures, including non-metallic ones that emit electrical sparks. When this merging occurs, all crabs begin to emit sparks and the non-metallic crab gains a metallic carapace. ## Encounter The party first encountered three metallic crabs in [[The Gauntlight]], but [[Bond]] sensed there were more through a door. When [[Zuhri]] attacked, the crabs ran away. A fourth crab-like creature was spotted that didn't have a metallic carapace but was sparking with electricity. This creature eventually merged with the others, causing all of them to emit sparks and the originally non-metallic crab to gain a metallic carapace. ## Session 129: Bond Goes Alone for Them In [[129_20260912 Leave This One to Me]], [[Jaspen Bond Callistair|Bond]] abandoned a four-way battle and went off alone specifically to protect the crabs. The [[Quadruped Construct]] had pushed past him into the northern corridor where the crabs are, and Bond's reasoning was that the rest of the party could handle the devils, the construct was the party's original objective, and *his crabs are up there*. It went badly for him. The construct out-ranged him at 90 feet, hit him three separate times, and he never got a shot off; he ended up closing both north doors to break its line of sight instead. Nobody knows what the construct intends to do to the crabs, which is exactly what worried him. - The construct was moving in their direction before Bond intervened - Bond has taken personal responsibility for them, treating them as *his* crabs rather than as dungeon wildlife %% # Excalidraw Data ## Text Elements ## Drawing ```json { "type": "excalidraw", "version": 2, "source": "https://github.com/zsviczian/obsidian-excalidraw-plugin/releases/tag/2.1.4", "elements": [ { "id": "7qSogdPD", "type": "text", "x": 290.3999239206314, "y": -308.87487030029297, "width": 3.8599853515625, "height": 24, "angle": 0, "strokeColor": "#1e1e1e", "backgroundColor": "transparent", "fillStyle": "solid", "strokeWidth": 2, "strokeStyle": "solid", "roughness": 1, "opacity": 100, "groupIds": [], "frameId": null, "roundness": null, "seed": 1894374050, "version": 2, "versionNonce": 2094291134, "isDeleted": true, "boundElements": null, "updated": 1713723608868, "link": null, "locked": false, "text": "", "rawText": "", "fontSize": 20, "fontFamily": 4, "textAlign": "left", "verticalAlign": "top", "containerId": null, "originalText": "", "lineHeight": 1.2 } ], "appState": { "theme": "dark", "viewBackgroundColor": "#ffffff", "currentItemStrokeColor": "#1e1e1e", "currentItemBackgroundColor": "transparent", "currentItemFillStyle": "solid", "currentItemStrokeWidth": 2, "currentItemStrokeStyle": "solid", "currentItemRoughness": 1, "currentItemOpacity": 100, "currentItemFontFamily": 4, "currentItemFontSize": 20, "currentItemTextAlign": "left", "currentItemStartArrowhead": null, "currentItemEndArrowhead": "arrow", "scrollX": 583.2388916015625, "scrollY": 573.6323852539062, "zoom": { "value": 1 }, "currentItemRoundness": "round", "gridSize": null, "gridColor": { "Bold": "#C9C9C9FF", "Regular": "#EDEDEDFF" }, "currentStrokeOptions": null, "previousGridSize": null, "frameRendering": { "enabled": true, "clip": true, "name": true, "outline": true } }, "files": {} } ``` %%
