# [[The Gauntlight]]
The Gauntlight is the name of the lighthouse just outside of [[Otari]], in the [[Fogfen]] swamp.
In [[006_20220528 Begrudge not the thieving monkey#^b24f9f|the Otari Fishery]], we got a map from the kobold queen that depicted what looked like a dungeon. [[Quen]] suddenly remembered a nursery rhyme that seemed to fit the description:
> When the fog is creeping and the moon is low, when the town is sleeping, gauntlight starts to glow. That's when she arises for her midnight lunch. Naughty kids are prizes for her teeth to crunch. But if you obey me and obey the rules, you're safe from [[Belcorra]]. She just eats the fools.
You can get to The Gauntlight by going into the [[Fogfen]]. The Lighthouse towers above the surrounding swamp.

## History with the Party
- **The Clone's Revelation (Session 077)**: A clone of [[Zarmavdian]] revealed that [[Belcorra]] was installing [[The Fulcrum Lenses]] as the last part of The Gauntlight when [[The Roseguard]] attacked while she was placing them; The Gauntlight hasn't turned on since the party left, leaving [[Otari]] vulnerable to werewolf attacks
- **Death Shepherd Battle (Session 081)**: The party fought ghasts and the [[Death Shepherd]], disabling and re-enabling barrier constructs to reach deeper levels, and developed a multi-phase plan — eliminate minions first, throw bodies down a pit to prevent resurrection, keep the Shepherd from reaching the pit — to permanently defeat it
- **Level 5 Exploration (Session 085)**: Explored [[Level 5]], the gladiatorial arena, finding murals of [[The Order of the Ebon Hand]] fighting aberrations led by [[Jade Quarion]]; learned that dying here can raise someone as a [[Hollow Eye Harbinger]], and that [[Galiath Banderdash|Galiath]] can operate the level's teleportation circles for a fee
- **Chained Elementals and Graveknight Armor (Session 107)**: Encountered chained [[Living Landslide|Living Landslides]] and [[Sod Hound|Sod Hounds]] bound by unrenewed [[Arcane Binding]]s; [[Vayle]] charmed a Living Landslide to escape. A terrifying [[Graveknight Armor]] emerged from the water and killed all the chained elementals in two rounds — a Level 10 cursed armor affected, like nearby dead [[Fleshwarp|Fleshwarps]], by the [[Black Hollow Curse]] the party caused on this level
- **Dissection Room Discovery (Session 103)**: Found an operating/dissection facility with recently dead dwarven bodies; blue blood trails confirmed the [[Thri-Kreen]] had been using it. Found roughly ten intelligent [[Mutalisks]] nearby, three [[Tomb Jelly|Tomb Jellies]] that emerged from organic material in the room, and a patrolling Level 8 [[Soldier Construct]] built by [[Volluk Azrinae]], showing his security systems remain active
- **Mouther Combat; Devil and Grothlut Army (Session 111)**: Continued fighting [[Gibbering Mouther|gibbering mouthers]] blocking a staircase; [[Zuhri]] spotted a 6-foot devil wreathed in red hellfire with an army of 12 [[Grothlut]]s to the north
- **Return to Sythra's Level (Session 125)**: Back on the level, [[Jaspen Bond Callistair|Bond]] found traps left by [[Gears]] and [[Grumblebum|Grumble]] read [[Dread]]'s shorthand markings on cleared areas. [[Graveknight Armor|Sythra]] refused to concede that [[Jafaki]] doesn't belong here, and revealed the gravesquire mechanic tied to a missing piece of her armor. She let the party roam (with a warning not to disrupt operations) while they headed for [[Volluk Azrinae]]'s workshop, where Bond found the door could be opened via soul gem, keyword, or disabling it outright — three successes needed, with a trap on every failure
- **Return to Otari (Session 133)**: The party left at 1 PM on day 86 to find Level 5 overrun by the tree's vines. Grumble took a sample to identify it ([[133_20261018 Healer Heal Thyself]])
## Open Mysteries
- The Gauntlight hasn't turned on since the party left after Session 077 — what would happen if it did?
- What was the Fulcrum Lenses' true purpose, and is it tied to Nhimbaloth's corrupting gaze?
- What does Sythra's missing armor piece — and the gravesquire it may have created — mean for the level's balance of power?
